HANDLING A PLANNED EMERGENCY EVACUATION (WATER)

A Planned Ditching Emergency Evacuation gives everyone time to prepare for a safe and effective evacuation. This time before the emergency landing allows for effective communication and coordination with both crewmembers and passengers. The following briefing technique, called TEST, will facilitate effective cooperation with everyone onboard.

The PIC declares an Emergency Situation and depending on the operation and/or situation will provide the TEST information to either the SIC, Cabin Crewmember or Passenger.

TEST This information is relayed from PIC to SIC, Cabin Crew or ABP Passenger.

T ype of Emergency

Problem? (Provide exactly what the problem is to the Cabin Crew or passenger, e.g. gear not extended, engine fire, hydraulics, etc.) Plan? (planning on landing in the water/ditching).

E xit Plan

Is there a specific primary exit plan? Overwing Exits will be primary, Main Cabin Door as backup

S ignals 2 Minutes. Confirm that a 2-minute signal prior to landing will be given.

10 Seconds - Brace Command at imminent touchdown, 10 second command is given, at which time the passengers will be placed in their brace positions.

EZ Victor - (crewmember covert signal to initiate if an evacuation is required).

T ime to Touchdown How much time until landing – synchronize watches.

It is important the TEST information is repeated back to the PIC. This helps clarify the information prior to addressing the passengers.
