The Crew’s working familiarity, the Cabin Crew’s experience, emergency training and especially the Crew Resource Management (CRM) training incorporating the perspective of the whole airplane crew (cockpit and cabin), saved the lives of the 150 passengers.


While this was a successful “unplanned emergency landing into water” , (especially in the Human Factors and


CRM arena), the NTSB and other safety experts have noted issues/failures regarding this accident. A few to note: • They found the FC didn’t go through all emergency checklists or follow all prescribed procedures. (NTSB didn’t really believe this was a crew error, but a company and policy/procedure deficit)


• The Airbus exits and slide information and ditching certification has short comings. (aft exits for water landing, slide rafts, wing slides, use of life lines)


• Definition, training, procedures and passenger information for: Ditching vs Unplanned landing into water. (aft exits for water landing, slide rafts, wing slides, use of life lines)


• The PAX cards confusing and contradictory. (ditching v landing into water, use of OWE, confusion between slides and slide rafts, vest retrieval)
