Psychology is the study of people; how they think, act, react and interact. Psychology is concerned with all aspects of behaviour and the thoughts, feelings and motivations underlying such behaviour.


The course will allow you the opportunity of studying Psychology in depth. Over the course of two years, you will become adept at carrying out and analysing research, acquire a good level of knowledge of the key areas of Psychology and the ability and skills to work at this level of education.


You will study a wide range of modules, including Cognitive & Biological Psychology, which allows you to interpret findings from studies to enhance your understanding of the brain and nervous system, and Individual Differences, where the theories of personality and intelligence are critically considered. #


PROGRESSION


Successful students may be able to progress to the BSc (Hons) Psychological Studies top-up (please note that this route is subject to the passing of a bridging module), BSc (Hons) Psychology, or the BSc (Hons) Psychology with Sociology Level 5 (if the Psychology and Sociology pathway was taken during the FdSc) at the University of Plymouth.1 The areas of health and social care, teaching and education, customer service and human resource management are careers which are particularly relevant to this course.

This exciting, challenging and contemporary course utilises the health promoting principles of sport, coaching fitness, physical activity, nutrition and psychology to suggest preventions and offer moderations for a number of conditions including cancer, coronary heart disease and type II diabetes.


This course will allow you to take part in several projects, allowing you to work with clients from a variety of backgrounds and with differing needs and conditions.


As well as the scientific elements, the course also includes aspects of sport & health policy and health promotion strategies, including exercise prescription. The modules are constructed around the main scientific disciplines which underpin coaching, fitness development and health maintenance, as well as providing an insight into historical and organisational perspectives. The assessed work allows you to specialise in areas which are of particular interest to you. You will develop an array of academic, practical and interpersonal skills.


You are required to undertake a substantial work-based project in an aspect of the industry of your choice, and as a result of this and other industry-related tasks, you will come into contact with and work with local employers.

Successful students may decide to apply to spend one further year on the BSc (Hons) Health & Fitness top-up at the University of Plymouth,1 or the BSc (Hons) Health, Exercise and Physical Activity, the BSc (Hons) Coaching and Fitness Education, or BSc (Hons) Strength and Conditioning at the Plymouth Marjon University in order to obtain a Bachelor Degree.
