WORKING WITH INDUSTRY

We take great pride in our engagement with local employers and community organisations. On all our university-level programmes we have developed a strong focus on employability and our students benefit from the professional relationships we have built.

“Petroc students studying Foundation Degrees in Teaching and Learning and Early Childhood Studies have been undertaking work-based learning with us. During the next academic year, we will also be inviting them to take a proactive role within an exciting new collaborative initiative between Mudtastic, the Northam Care Trust and Appledore Primary School, which focuses on NCT clients and primary school students sharing woodland-based activities.

At Mudtastic, we are grateful for the creative ideas and reflective practice that Petroc students contribute to these important, community-focused projects. Their input challenges us to constantly improve our practice and, in return, there is the opportunity to develop a unique set of transferable skills, applicable to a future career in education, early years practice, forest school, social care, the environment, the arts or heritage."

“Engaging with employers is key to ensuring that students are ready and equipped for life after study. Family Compass has been delighted to be involved with Petroc's Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care and BA (Hons) Professional Development (Health and Social Care) courses in numerous ways, from presenting to a group of inspiring students at their Employability Day to acting as an industry expert external advisor and critiquing some amazing project work. We are particularly excited to be working in partnership on the delivery of the Community Based Project module, and can't wait to see the students' ideas come to life.”

Keda Johnstone, Operations Director at Family Compass

We are extremely proud of our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) provision here at Petroc and were delighted to retain our ‘STEM Assured’ standard in 2018, the only college in Devon with this accolade.

“The opportunity to engage with employers is a really important aspect of our programme and has had a really positive impact on both the student and the employer’s professional development.”

Clark Denby, Programme Manager, FdSc Health and Social Care
