TRENDS 2022

3 HIGH-T E CH S PA THE R A P I E S Whole body cryotherapy

Brave souls wearing a swimsuit, gloves, socks and a hat and spend up to three

minutes in a chamber where the temperature is typically between -85C and -110C. Although there’s little solid evidence to support its benefi ts, proponents believe it

can reduce infl ammation and muscle and joint pain, speed up the healing of athletic injuries, manage chronic pain, improve skin conditions and combat depression. WHERE TO TRY IT:Grantley Hall, in the Yorkshire Dales, off ers a session along with

electric muscle stimulation from £135, with the option of adding body composition analysis, and underwater treadmill and altitude training. grantleyhall.co.uk

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) A common treatment for decompression sickness in scuba divers, air pressure is

increased to two to three times atmospheric pressure to enable your lungs to gather more oxygen. Spa chambers can be designed for one or more people. Research is

lacking, but advocates believe higher levels of oxygen and hydrogen can help reduce free radicals to prevent disease, slow ageing, deepen sleep, reduce infl ammation, advance healing, improve cognitive function and boost energy levels.

WHERE TO TRY IT:The Coach House Spa at Beaverbrook, Surrey (£75 per session, beaverbrook.co.uk) and The Body Lab, London (£120, thebodylab.com).

LED light therapy

LEDs were originally developed by NASA to grow plants in space. With LED light therapy, diff erent wavelengths of light, including blue and red, penetrate the skin and are thought to help the skin rejuvenate and heal. For example, blue is thought to

make oil-producing sebaceous glands less active, helping reduce acne, while red light may help improve scarring and wrinkles by stimulating collagen.

WHERE TO TRY IT:Four Seasons Hotel London at Ten Trinity Square off ers the Luxury Green Caviar Liſt Facial (£270 for 90 minutes, fourseasons.com). LED light therapy is combined with microcurrent stimulation, ultrasonic treatment, a gold face mask, green caviar, hyaluronic acid and stem cells.
