The world’s most innovative spa resorts and hotels are using cutting-edge technology to achieve groundbreaking aesthetic and wellness results. Words: Sam Lewis
As technology advances and clientele becomes more savvy, top spas are off ering a suite of signature treatments. Innovative spa resorts are following in the footsteps of medical centres by off ering therapies that utilise high-tech machines and diagnostic-driven equipment to reduce pain, enhance looks, fi ght depression and boost immunity. Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts is among the leaders — using
body-mapping thermographic technology at spas such as The Spa at Sensei Lanai, A Four Seasons Resort, in Hawaii, to reveal hotspots, enabling therapists to tailor massages to target areas of pain. Other spas have introduced percussion massage using handheld Theragun or Hypervolt devices to deliver rapid pulses or vibrations to muscles to relieve tension. VR headsets have also been added to the spa menu at Four
Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina, in Haiwaii, to help guests meditate and de-stress while spas such as the one at Whatley Manor Hotel & Spa have installed futuristic-looking fl oat pods.
A handful of cutting-edge spas, including the one at recently
opened Fairmont Windsor Park have also invested in whole body cryotherapy chambers to help with a range of ailments, while the Bliss Spa at W Hong Kong features a range of cryotherapy facials on its spa menu. Meanwhile, spa expert Chenot remains at the forefront of
science-led treatments off ering blood analysis to determine guests’ biological age and help prescribe a personalised treatment plan to optimise wellbeing and health. Most spas, however, have a long way to go to keep up with
medical centres like the SHA Wellness Clinic, in Alicante, Spain. Its therapists work with a team of doctors, NASA experts and Harvard Medical School staff to create new treatments. In this way, they’re constantly pushing themselves to the forefront of innovation in the fi eld of medical science for the benefi t of clients. These practitioners, and those listed above, are quickly changing what we think of as possible in the world of wellness.
