35 Charity Challenges • New Year New You

Nightrider: fun-filled charity bike ride N

Nightrider is back! Now in its ninth year in London, it’ll also be returning to Liverpool for the third time — plus, there’s a brand new event in Glasgow. #notyourusualnightout

ightrider is a very special charity bike ride - if you’re looking for something a bit different, full of team spirit and are

up for a challenge, then this is the ride for you! This fun-filled charity bike ride is different to

many other rides — it’s not timed and it’s not a race. It’s all about seeing the sights of our great cities and having a fun night out with your friends, while getting fit and raising funds for worthy causes. Thousands of cyclists will take to

the streets as the sun goes down in this fully supported event. The route is designed to take in as many highlights of the city as possible, while also avoiding any busy roads. The route is fully signed and there are regular break stops on the way with snacks, toilets, medics and mechanics. The London ride is taking place overnight

to be

the best night out this summer. It’s a fantastic way to get together with friends and family, or team up with work colleagues. The event has a party-like atmosphere as everyone is relaxed and ready to enjoy themselves. There’s a choice of routes in each city — 50km and 100km — so there’s something for everyone, from novice riders to more experienced cyclists. Nightrider offers the chance to have fun and enjoy a Saturday night out with a difference, while doing some- thing amazing for charity. Nightrider is open to anyone aged 18+ of average fitness who

on Saturday 9 June and will finish early on Sunday 10 June. Starting from Lee Valley Velopark, this iconic route kicks-off with a lap of the road circuit before heading out through Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and into north London. Along the way you’ll see dozens of the capital’s world- famous sights,

including Buckingham Palace,

Canary Wharf, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square and the London Eye. With several bridge cross- ings over the Thames, including Tower Bridge, there are some stunning views to enjoy. You’ll also be able to discover some of London’s lesser known sites along the way as well. In 2018, Nightrider will be returning to Liverpool

on 14-15 July. With a route of two halves, this ride promises to be something special. Starting by the Pier Head, you’ll cycle out of the city through the Mersey Tunnel (which is closed to traffic) to the Wirral. You’ll enjoy 50km of cycling in this beau- tiful area before heading back through the tunnel and taking on the City Loop. Brand new for this year is Glasgow — it’s the

first time Nightrider has headed north of the border. Taking place on 19-20 May, the ride will take in many of the famous sites including the four football grounds, Glasgow and Strathclyde universities, Billy Connolly murals, Clydeside, Barrowlands, Glasgow Cathedral, Byres Road and Sauchiehall Street, to name just a few.
