• After explaining the purpose of the test, describe and demonstrate the proper route and technique. Allow the client to warm up and perform a few practice trials before administering the test.
• The goal of the test is to complete the course as quickly as possible. • The client does not need to touch the cone with his or her hand, but must touch the line with either foot. Proper technique must be followed or the test run will not count.
Test protocol and administration: • The trainer is positioned as the timer/judge at the center cone or line marker. • Ask the client to straddle the middle cone or line marker facing the trainer and assume a three-point stance (Figure 8-24).
• On the trainer’s command, the client turns and sprints to the cone or line marker to the left, making foot contact with the marker before changing direction and sprinting 10 yards across the center marker to make foot contact with the cone or line marker on the right, then changes direction once again and sprints back through the center line.
• Record the time needed to complete the test to the nearest one-hundredth of a second.
• The pro agility test is then repeated two more times. The client can take a few minutes to recover between tests.
• The fastest of the three trials is noted as the final test score on the testing form. • Use Table 8-33 to compare the client’s performance to various athletic populations. Note: The test can be run in either or both directions.
