In French, there are a number of ways to make a noun plural. 1. Simply add –s to the end of the singular of the noun. This applies to most French nouns. Singulier

une / la vache un / le cochon
Retenez ! Do not pronounce an ‘s’ that makes a noun plural!
2. A noun that ends in –al in the singular ends in –aux in the plural. Singulier
un / l’animal un / le cheval
des / les vaches des / les cochons
Pluriel
des / les animaux des / les chevaux
3. Add –x to the end of a noun that ends in –eau in the singular. Singulier
un / l’oiseau un / l’agneau
Pluriel
des / les oiseaux des / les agneaux
4. Do nothing to nouns that already end in –s , –x or –z (e.g. la souris, le prix, le riz). Retenez !
Note that some nouns are always plural in French (e.g. les vacances).
