A kitchen and living space designed to suit the needs of a modern family, in a traditional setting was not without its challenges. One of the very first tasks for us was to reconsider the layout of the ground floor of the property. We were instructed early on in the project, before planning was submitted, which meant we could explore the best location for the kitchen. The existing room has been extended with large, sliding glass windows and doors to make the most of the views over the New Forest. This did, however, mean the kitchen had to be fitted on the back wall, resulting in less wall space for storage. However, the homeowners had a beautiful freestanding dresser that we suggested upcycling for additional crockery/glasses storage. Its new position, close to the dining area, ensures laying the table for family meals is a breeze. We also created a tall larder cupboard to mirror the tall fridge-freezer and there is a microwave hidden inside to keep the beautiful CRL Quartz worktops clutter-free.
