B EDITOR’S COMMENT
IT’S GETTING BETTER ALL THE TIME
efore I divulge exactly what’s inside this month’s issue, fi rst, a bit of housekeeping. Entries to the 2023 kbbreview Retail & Design
Awards close at 5pm on November 17 – and there will be no extensions. If you want to be in with a chance of winning one of these prestigious industry awards and celebrating with your peers at a glamorous event in Cardiff on April 20, 2023, head to page 75 for more information or go straight to
kbbreview.com/awards to enter. Back to the issue then and, this month we’re
looking again at one of the industry’s biggest challenges, and something that has been plaguing retailers since Covid – appliance supply or, perhaps more accurately, the lack of it. See our analysis, pages 33-35, for an update. Spoiler alert, though some retailers are still being quoted waiting times of three to six months for some products, on the whole, things do appear to be getting better... Interestingly, this month’s kbbreview Interview [pages 28-30] is also
strongly linked to appliance supply. AO is one of the biggest names in appliances, but, as it’s mainly used for distress purchases, it’s not seen as a big player in the kitchen specialist market – but that could all be about to change. Andrew Davies meets AO Business managing director Anthony Sant. In our shopfl oor analysis [pages 39-40], we’re looking at the pros and cons of consumer fi nance for independents and whether, in a testing market, offering fl exible payment options could create new opportunities or simply bring new challenges. Elsewhere in the issue, we head to the Moores factory in Wetherby,
Yorkshire pages 43-45], which has been steadily growing its business for the past 75 years, and join Hyde Park Bathrooms and Kitchens [pages 68-70] as it celebrates 25 years of retailing in London’s West End. As always, your feedback on these and any other topic covered in the issue is greatly appreciated.
