Just Add Water, Buckhurst Hill


A warm, inviting and family-friendly atmosphere is what Just Add Water set out to achieve with this refurbishment. We speak to showroom manager, Charlotte Schofield…

Epping Forest district of Essex, the newly refurbished Just Add Water showroom gets lots of passing trade. It is set over two floors with 140sq m downstairs and 250sq m upstairs. “Now, every square metre is making money,” showroom manager Charlotte Schofield explains. “Before, the showroom was in a bit of a rut and we weren’t serving our customers to the best of our ability. Now we are.” The showroom could be intimidating, with 60 to peruse, but Schofield and her team set out to create the opposite of that – coming up with a showroom design that is open and bright, featuring fun and unusual products, all while promoting a friendly and relaxing atmosphere.

So, when customers come in, we’ll invite them to sit down and have a coffee, and we’ve got an area for children to play with Lego and do some colouring, and we’ll put a film on for them, while we chat to the parents. “I’ve got small kids myself so I understand how hard it can be when you come into an environment like this. Families make up much of our client base. As well as doing main bathrooms and a lot of cloakrooms, we do quite a few children’s en suites so we like to try and get them involved too.” Indeed, the showroom is appealing to kids, with its pastel hues and electric blues,

but it’s also well thought through to appeal to the broad base of customers that they see. There are unusual products that consumers are unlikely to see anywhere else in the vicinity – favourites include the powder pink shower frame from Drench, combined with the iridescent tiles, as well as the striking bright blue display that customers first see when they come in, and the dark Duravit display that sits in another window. “We get people passing in the evenings and calling us about that one, when they’ve seen the showroom lit up,” Schofield explains. Other favourites in the showroom include a cloakroom display with the cast concrete pink basin and daisy-patterned tiles by Ca’Pietra, and a mottled blue cloakroom display by Thomas Crapper. “We’ve tried to show products that


people would never normally consider or even imagine, and they see it and it gives them the confidence to go for something a bit different. And, often we’ll sell an entire bay – so customers will want all the same products – they might get something in a slightly differently colour, but it will essentially be the same.”


When it comes to accessorising, Scho- field adds: “They can add personality to a room, with practicality at the forefront. We have partnered with Origins Living for some fabulous mood board style displays to allow our customers to interact with the products.” As well as having a diverse mix of product, Schofield notes that it was important that they display products at a range of price points.
