Archispek | RETAILER CASE STUDY

Oak veneer doors run floor to ceiling and handles are custom- made to match

The design offers plenty of open storage for the clients’ bits and pieces

About Archispek machinery, renowned for

Archispek in Fenton Barns, North Berwick, was founded by Paul Morrice in 2017. The company has steadily grown and now has 10 employees, including Huse Kilic (pictured). Located in the East Lothian countryside, its workshop serves as a creative hub where ideas come to life with a blend of craftsmanship and technology. It has invested in the latest Homag CNC its

precision and efficiency in

woodworking. This allows it to achieve the highest level of accuracy in crafting bespoke components for its clients’ kitchens. Each kitchen is unique to that particular client, who can choose between a traditional or contemporary design.

THE PROPERTY Mid-century, terraced three-bedroom property located in the West End of Edinburgh.

THE CLIENTS

The clients are a professional couple with two daughters aged 10 and 13. They are a busy creative household with many hobbies. The husband is the founder of a digital design company and his wife is a stay-at-home mum with a love for baking and interiors. Both love colour and self-expression through interiors and music. He plays the guitar and teaches his girls how to play too.

THE BRIEF

the remainder of the slab material, saving on the cost of tiling and not letting it go to waste.

The real oak veneer fronts meant the clients could re-sand and re-stain them for years to come, giving them a long-lasting kitchen that will stand the test of time. We also grain-matched the boards vertically, so the beautiful natural pattern was not interrupted. To sum up, I think we gave the clients more than what was expected for the value of the kitchen. Using robust materials throughout ensured durability and longevity. It is packed with storage inside and out and the design and layout supports the needs of the family, not only functionally, but in terms of their love for bright but calming colours and interiors. I am very jealous of this one, I must admit. The results serve more than just a space to cook but one that allows my clients to relax and that can soothe the mind after a busy days work or school.

The brief was simple – the clients wanted a clean, minimal design that they could display and conceal at the same time. Display the personal items and hide the ‘kitcheny’ elements, such as the ovens, so that the space could work with the rest of the open-plan room. The layout had to lend itself to the views into the garden as well as the aspect of the rest of the space too.
