A lunchtime session in the 'Belonging' stream will see Dr Mark McBride-Wright, Founder and MD of EqualEngineers, discuss 'InterEngineering and How This Inspired the Focus on Masculinity in Engineering'. A Chartered chemical engineer specialising in health and safety, with experience in oil and gas, government services, and defence, Dr McBride-Wright is a recognised leader in diversity and inclusion in the engineering and construction industry. He is Chair and Co- Founder of InterEngineering, an organisation which ‘connects, informs, and empowers’ LGBT+ engineers and supporters. Under his leadership, it has become ‘the leading organisation addressing LGBT+ inclusion in the engineering and construction sector’, with a membership of over 500 engineers. He wrote a report for the Government on tackling homophobic, biphobic, and transphobic bullying in engineering, and is working with it on implementation of the recommended measures.

Looking after people

In the ‘Looking After Our People’ stream, in a session chaired by IHEEM President, Paul Fenton, David Lakin, Head of Education, Safeguarding & Education Policy at the IET, will address 'The Faraday Challenge, and How IET are Supporting STEM Education Programmes'. IHEEM has partnered with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) as its 2021-2022 Faraday Challenge theme partner. The Faraday Challenge days are designed to introduce students to engineering, inspire them to consider an engineering career, and help develop their practical and employability skills. As theme partner, IHEEM has worked with the IET to develop a suitable challenge that reflects the Institute’s priorities, and that would capture students’ imagination. In a subsequent presentation, IHEEM Project Support Officer, Monira Kaouech, will then explain the thinking behind the Institute’s joint development with HEFMA of a Career Route Map setting out the entry routes, progression into, and key skills and

Pete Sellars. Day Five

On Friday 22 September, the fifth and final day, online sessions running from 10.00 am to 3.30 pm, under the theme, ‘International Perspective’, will feature presentations on experiences and learnings from overseas, plus an update on the International Federation of Healthcare Engineering’s activities. The day, and the Healthcare Estates 2021 conference, will conclude with a presentation at 4.35 pm, in which Paul Fenton will give his closing remarks.

Offering delegates choice IHEEM CEO, Pete Sellars, said: “We have worked hard to bring together a hybrid event that offers choice for our delegates to engage with Healthcare Estates in a way that suits them. The Institute is undoubtedly breaking new ground with this delivery model, but we remain committed to supporting our individual and corporate members during what is still a challenging and uncertain time for our industry. In particular I am looking forward to welcoming everyone to our online and on-demand conference.

“While there will be no live speakers or presentations at Manchester Central, we have built on the success of our 2020 Digital Week by developing a multi- stream programme that will deliver over 100 sessions and over 80 hours of live and on-demand content for delegates. We are once again honoured to have a wide range of prominent speakers from across the EFM and wider engineering profession, and I would like to thank them for their continued support. I hope everyone – however they connect – discovers something in our online programme that is informative and inspiring, but, most of all, enjoyable.”
