IHEEM head office’s wide-ranging remit

IHEEM’s primary purpose as a professional engineering institution is to keep members up to date with developing technology and changing regulations within the healthcare sector.

The Institute said: “Our 5-Year Business Plan, set out by our CEO, Pete Sellars, at the beginning of 2020, sets out a series of tangible core objectives and deliverables that will ensure IHEEM members have the capability and support to deliver a healthcare estates environment that is safe, efficient, and effective for patients, staff, and visitors, as well as ensuring the long-term viability of the Institute.”

Chief Operating Officer, Tania Davies, manages the Head Office team and overall governance of the Institute, supporting Pete Sellars in the successful delivery of IHEEM’s core objectives and business strategy, alongside Nicola Latham, Business Support Manager. Karen Casey, Membership Development Officer, and Clair Wilkins, Membership & Administration Co-ordinator, look after and administer the Institute’s membership and registration activities, liaise with and support existing members, and also support individuals on gaining their professional registration titles with the Engineering Council.

Monira Kaouech, Project Support Officer, works across a variety of agendas, supporting the President’s vision, and

working closely with the IHEEM Council and Management and Finance Committee. She is also on the Diversity & Inclusion Working Group as IHEEM’s STEM Ambassador, working to engage with new partner organisations and inspire the

future generation of engineers. The task of the Marketing and Events team – comprising Marketing and Events Manager, Melissa Glass, and Events and Marketing Support Officer, Yasmin Brewer, is to raise the Institute’s profile both nationally and internationally, and support and develop the membership offer – by designing, promoting, and implementing, a programme of high- quality professional development events, and education, training activities, and opportunities. Yasmin is also the lead liaison for all IHEEM Branches. IHEEM offers individual and corporate affiliate membership options, and is keen to ensure good succession planning. In the past year IHEEM and HEFMA have jointly developed a Workforce Strategy and Career Route Map to highlight the broad spectrum of career opportunities in healthcare engineering and estate management. IHEEM has also reviewed and updated the Terms of Reference for its Technical Platforms and Boards of Registration, to ensure good governance, meet Engineering Council criteria, and maintain high competence standards among such professional personnel.

Overcoming ‘the last unsolved ligature risk’

Kingsway Group will showcase its ‘ground-breaking’ new SENTRY full-door edge ligature alarm system, alongside its ‘renowned’ anti-barricade complete doorsets and anti-ligature washroom accessories.

The company said: “Well known for our innovative approach to design and collaboration, we have taken the knowledge and learnings from over 2,000 successfully completed projects to bring together a new range of anti- ligature door systems and hardware, exclusively designed and tested for the mental health environment.”

The SENTRY complete doorset is said to offer ‘the highest level of patient safety’ through its full-door edge ligature alarm system, which recognises if a ligature is trapped against any of the door edges, and will activate when a load of over 7kg is applied horizontally or vertically. Kingsway said: “This life-saving technology works when the door is both open and closed, alerting clinical staff at the earliest possible moment. As with all our door systems, SENTRY is supplied as a complete and certified doorset, allowing quick and easy on-site installation.”

“Doors have long been the last unsolved ligature risk, but with the new SENTRY, that has now changed,” said director, Julian Hall. “We are excited to be showcasing it at this year’s Healthcare Estates exhibition, and would be pleased to welcome you to our stand, D8, for a full demonstration.”
