Council member set to chair Technical Platform Committee

IHEEM has appointed Eddie McLaughlan as the new Chair of its Technical Platform Committee.

The Assistant Director, Engineering, Environment and Decontamination at NHS National Services Scotland, NHS Scotland Assure, is a Chartered Environmental Engineer with over 30 years’ experience. He took over as Chair of the Institute’s Technical Platform Committee in July, and replaces Bill Millar, who recently resigned from the role, having chaired the Committee since 2016. He has led on healthcare engineering, sustainability, decontamination, and related issues with Health Facilities Scotland since 1995. Providing national leadership on Engineering, Sustainability, and Decontamination, he has in his remit the task of improving the environment for patient care in Scotland, and ensuring that any adverse impact of NHS Scotland’s operations on the country’s environment is minimised. He is also a member of IHEEM Council. He said: “I am looking forward to chairing this

Eddie McLaughlan.

Committee, and building on Bill’s achievements during his tenure. One of my goals in this role is to the raise the profile of the Platform members, so that the work they do, both as a member of the Institute, and in their own careers, has the status within, and respect of, the healthcare EFM sector. In addition, one of my priorities is to strengthen the governance and consistency across all the Institute’s Technical Platforms and registration boards. Therefore as a first step I have agreed with the IHEEM Council that the Chairs from the Boards of Registration (AE) will become members of the Technical Platform Committee with immediate effect.”

Bill Millar.

IHEEM’s CEO, Pete Sellars, added: “We are honoured to have Eddie take over as Chair of this high- profile committee. Following the revision of the Terms of Reference for TPs and BoRs (AE), this is another positive step towards ensuring that the Institute has consistency of approach and practice for the Technical Platforms and the professional registration of its AEs.”

Articles sought for forthcoming editions

The quality of the more ‘technical’ articles in HEJ is very much dependent on material received from experts in the field, and the Editor is currently looking for high quality editorial content, by way of feature articles, for inclusion in forthcoming issues, from November this year and into 2022. As Health Estate Journal is an editorially-led publication, articles should be as ‘generic’ and non-promotional as possible, but may include relevant case studies demonstrating instances where particular products and technologies have addressed a specific issue. Contributed articles should ideally be by-lined to a particular individual(s), and include a concise (150-300 words approx.) author biography and details of the author’s current professional role and remit, plus a high-resolution (minimum 300 dpi resolution) portrait photo, and at least another two high-res images per page of text. Ideal article length is anything from

two and half to five pages, based on around 750 words per page. HEJ’s core readers are healthcare estates and facilities and healthcare engineering personnel at all levels, architects/designers, consulting, mechanical, and electrical engineers, property/maintenance managers, and senior construction industry personnel. All articles that appear in the magazine are also added to the HEJ website on publication.

The deadline for receipt of finished articles and photos for each issue of HEJ is about five weeks prior to publication, which is normally between the 5th-7th of the month on the cover.

Please contact the Editor, Jonathan Baillie (E: jonathanbaillie@stepcomms.com T: 01892 779999) if you have an outline idea for an article you wish to discuss, or alternatively simply email him a synopsis of about 250-300 words setting out in brief what the article would cover.
