CERTIFICATION 27

30 years of history and over 70,000 certified products worldwide. Its presence provides independent assurance that an ingredient meets strict vegan criteria, reducing perceived risk and reinforcing trust in both the ethical and technical integrity of our actives.

Q: Has certification helped you differentiate your actives from competitors offering similar functionality? A: Yes. In categories where performance may be comparable, vegan certification becomes a differentiator.

Q: Do you believe Vegan Trademark certification has directly contributed to increased sales or market access? If so, how? A: Yes. The certification has opened doors to markets and customers that require vegan certified ingredients as a requisite. It reduced validation timelines and enabled us to participate in strategic projects that would otherwise remain out of reach.

Q: What parts of the Vegan Trademark assessment were most relevant for your synthetic and biotech ingredients? A: The assessment placed particular emphasis on raw materials, culture media components and processing aids. This comprehensive review aligns closely with our internal philosophy of full traceability and rigorous documentation across every stage of production.

Q: Did the documentation requirements highlight areas where you strengthened internal traceability? A: We already operate under ISO 9001, which ensures robust internal traceability. However, the Vegan Trademark process further refined our documentation workflows and strengthened coordination between Regulatory, Quality and R&D.

Q:Were there any aspects of your biotech or synthetic processes that required additional clarification or unexpected disclosure? A: Yes. Certain marine ferments and stem

cell derived ingredients required additional clarification, particularly regarding culture media: In some cases, even minor components used in media preparation needed to be disclosed or justified to ensure full compliance.

Q: How did your R&D or regulatory teams adapt to the level of detail required by the Vegan Trademark? A: From a regulatory standpoint, we were already well prepared thanks to other certifications such as Halal. We follow a strict raw material validation checklist and automatically exclude any ingredient of animal origin or with manufacturing steps involving animal derived substances. This existing rigour made the transition to Vegan Trademark requirements seamless.

Q: Are you seeing increasing demand from global brands for vegan certified cosmetic actives? A: Yes. Demand continues to rise steadily. For many brands, vegan certification has evolved from a trend into a core pillar of their identity and sustainability strategy.

Q: Have any brand partners or retailers explicitly required certification before they could use your ingredients? A: Yes. Several retailers and international brands require vegan certification before considering an ingredient for their formulations, particularly within clean beauty and ethically positioned product lines.

Q: Which regions or customer types show the strongest preference for vegan certified ingredients? A: Europe and North America remain the strongest markets for vegan certified actives, but we are witnessing rapid growth in Asia, where transparency, traceability and sustainability are increasingly shaping purchasing decisions.

Q: What is the biggest commercial or strategic win you can attribute to Vegan Trademark certification? A: One of the most significant wins has been gaining access to strategic projects with global

brands that exclusively work with certified ingredients. The certification positions us as a trusted partner aligned with their values and opens opportunities that would otherwise remain inaccessible.

Q:Was there a specific moment where you realised the certification had clearly paid off? A: Yes. A defining moment occurred when a customer stated that without the certification, they would not have been able to consider the ingredient at all. This highlighted the direct commercial impact and strategic importance of the Vegan Trademark.

Q: Can you share a buyer or client comment that illustrates the value of having certified vegan actives? A: A recurring comment from clients is that the certification saves them significant time and internal auditing efforts. For formulators and regulatory teams, having a trusted seal simplifies ingredient selection and reduces documentation burdens.

Q: Has the certification process influenced your future ingredient development or innovation strategy? A: Yes. The certification has shaped our innovation roadmap by encouraging us to certify new ingredients as early as possible. This ensures smoother adoption by customers and aligns our development pipeline with evolving expectations for ethical and sustainable actives.

Q: What advice would you give to other ingredient manufacturers considering certification - especially those working with synthetic or biotech materials? A: We recommend establishing a robust raw material validation process and ensuring that every component is fully free from animal origin. Strong traceability, rigorous documentation and close collaboration with suppliers are essential. For companies working with synthetic or biotech platforms, vegan certification is not only achievable - it is strategically advantageous.
