Czech biophysicists help develop innovative skin care products

LVMH Group cosmetic brand Guerlain has launched a skin care product range featuring a novel active ingredient developed by scientists at Palacký University Olomouc in Czechia. Orchidée Impériale Gold Nobile

product range formulations use an active ingredient extracted from the Dendrobium nobile orchid to slow down the aging process. Biophysicists from the

Department of Biophysics of the Faculty of Science of Palacký University used advanced biophysical and optical methods for detailed monitoring of biological processes in the skin, which

Dendrobium nobile is associated

with the restoration of UPE emissions close to those of normal skin cells, as compared to senescent cells.

“Our results show that ultra-weak

demonstrated the novel properties of the ingredient. The research focused in particular

on the so-called ultra-weak photon (UPE) emission – very weak light signals emitted by skin cells and which can serve as an indicator of ageing.

photon emission can be a sensitive indicator of changes in the skin associated with ageing,” said Ankush Prasad, head of the research team at the Department of Biophysics. “Thanks to unique measurement

technologies, we are able to monitor these processes and better understand how their course can be influenced,” he added. The Faculty of Science of Palacký University began cooperation with

the Guerlain cosmetics house, which is part of the LVMH Group, in 2022. This partnership was

subsequently followed by a three- year contract focused on further research into mechanisms related to the modulation of UPE emission in human skin and their contribution to cellular functions. “This project is an example of

how basic research in biophysics can find concrete applications in practice,” said Prasad. “Connecting the university

environment with an industrial partner allows scientific knowledge to be transferred into real products”.

Best Formulations Personal Care equipment goes under hammer

US industrial auctioneers Tauber- Arons will this month hold a two-day timed online auction featuring late- model manufacturing and packaging equipment made by California’s Best Formulations Personal Care. The auction on 3-4 June includes a comprehensive lineup of machinery supporting nearly every stage of personal care manufacturing. A highlight of the auction is the

extensive offering of automated filling and packaging equipment. Buyers will find bottling lines,

fillers, cappers, labellers, conveyors, and integrated packaging systems

designed to maximize efficiency and throughput.

These assets are particularly

valuable for manufacturers looking to scale operations quickly while avoiding the long lead times associated with new equipment purchases. In addition to production and

packaging machinery, the auction will feature quality control and laboratory equipment essential for maintaining product consistency and regulatory compliance. Material handling equipment and

facility support assets will also be available.

The equipment has been well

maintained and is ideally suited for companies seeking to expand capacity or upgrade existing operations.

“This auction is all about the

depth and quality of the equipment available,” said Tony Arons, president

of Tauber-Arons. “From blending and processing

to high-speed packaging, this is a wonderful opportunity for manufacturers to acquire late-model assets that can immediately enhance production capabilities,” he added. The timed online auction is open

to bidders globally. Interested parties are encouraged to register early and schedule an inspection at Best Formulations Personal Care’s facility in Huntington Beach, California. For more information about the auction, visit https:// tauberaronsinc.com/events/ bestformulationspersonalcare/.

DSM-Firmenich again sponsors Skin Cancer Foundation programme

DSM-Firmenich is sponsoring the US-based Skin Cancer Foundation’s mobile skin cancer screening programme for a fifth successive year. Destination Healthy Skin

has provided nearly 34,000 free skin cancer screenings, working with volunteer dermatologists to identify more than 13,500 potential skin cancers and precancers, including 672 suspected melanomas. More than 116,000 people

have received free skin cancer educational materials and sun protection products through the

program. The Destination Healthy Skin RV,

equipped with two private exam rooms, travels around the country visiting 40 cities from April to November, spending between one to three days in each community it visits. Local volunteer dermatologists

provide free full-body skin cancer screenings on board the RV. Participants receive skin cancer

prevention and early detection literature. “About 65% of the people

who receive a screening through the programme have never been screened for skin cancer before,” said Becky Kamowitz, executive director of the New York-based Skin Cancer Foundation. “It’s likely that many of the

suspected skin cancers identified onboard our RV would remain undetected if it weren’t for this programme and our volunteer medical providers,” she added. “We’re grateful for partners like DSM-Firmenich, whose support

helps us bring this public service to communities around the country. We know from participant feedback that Destination Healthy Skin has saved and improved lives.” Free skin cancer screenings by

local dermatologists, educational brochures, and DSM-Firmenich Parsol Shield bags filled with sunscreen samples provided by programme sponsors will be available at every stop of the RV as it travels across the US. “Our Parsol UV solutions help

defend against harmful rays, reduce skin cancer risk, and prevent photoaging,” said DSM.
