“The survey asked about what companies are focusing more on in 2024. Nearly 46% answered with vegan ingredients and making high efficacy products
derived from natural ingredients” Jayanne Jin, global editor/business developer, The K Beauty Science
In terms of the supplement market in Korea, ginseng is the absolute number one. Nobody has been able to beat that. People pay a premium for cosmetics with ginseng ingredients. It has been proven that ginseng is very good for your immune system.
TP: In much of the world, there has been a huge trend for natural ingredients in cosmetic products. Is it the same in Korea? JJ: There was a recent survey of more than 200 researchers who worked for ingredient companies or distributors. The survey asked them about what they are
focusing more on in 2024. Nearly 46% answered with vegan ingredients and making high efficacy products derived from natural ingredients. Data analysis shows teenagers have a very clear and distinct demand for vegan products than for other age groups. They like to take care of themselves, but they’re
more conscious about sustainability than other age groups. So, because of that demand, I think the
laboratories will be looking into new ingredients derived from nature. There will be a lot of experiments going on in that area.
TP: Is that also because there’s more young Korean people who are vegan? JJ: I think young people are more conscious about animal testing. They’re also very conscious about vegetarianism. I also think they feel that anything chemical may harm their bodies and their skin.
