10 Questions with... Les Marshall

Each month we ask a cleaning industry professional the Tomorrow’s Cleaning 10 Questions. This month, we chatted to Les Marshall, Sales and Marketing Director at Miele Professional.

Q1 Q2

Q3 Q4

What was your first job? I started out as the Area Sales

Manager for a Sportswear company.

How did you get into the cleaning industry?

I was approached by an agency and then recognised a real opportunity for career progression.

Which three words describe your personality?

Unpredictable, chivalrous, impatient.

If you could visit one place in the world, where

would you go and why? I have been very fortunate that in my role I have had the opportunity to visit many countries, so it’s not a question

of somewhere new. For me, the one I would really like to revisit is Japan.

Q5 Q6

Q7

How would you improve the cleaning industry?

I would introduce more well-rounded regulations.

If an intern were to start tomorrow, what’s the

one piece of advice you would give them? The most important thing in life is to fi nd a career path that will make you happy; then your chances of being successful will increase.

What do you do to unwind? I’d have to say spending time

with my grandchildren; they don’t

always make me ‘unwind’ but I love being with them.

Q8

If you were stranded on a desert island and you

could only have one thing, what would it be and why? Family is very important to me, so if I were alone on an island, a family photo album would be the number one item I’d take with me.

Q9

What do you think is the future of the cleaning

industry? I think this is a very positive time for the sector. I have been in the industry for over 30 years now, and have always seen industry growth and new innovations – I see no reason for that to change any time soon.

Q10

If you could change one thing about your

career to date, what would it be and why? Truthfully, nothing at all; I have been very fortunate that I have always enjoyed every role I’ve had, as well as the career progressions I’ve achieved.
