Presentation Is Everything Speaking of innovation, the ISSA/INTERCLEAN Amsterdam Innovation Awards was one not to miss. As you’ll have seen from our news section, it was the B60/10C MopVac from KӒRCHER which took that top spot of the show, but what I always fi nd remarkable about the cleaning industry is that people genuinely want other companies to do well, and the level of support and camaraderie at this was plain to see. The buzz around the fi nal decision reinforced this idea that innovation is of great importance to the cleaning sector, and people are always looking for the next big thing. However, not all of these advancements need be giant leaps forward, they can be small steps –

they just need to make a difference to the cleaner’s every-day life, that is what matters. Again, we are still very much a people-based industry.

Of course, in terms of awards, another highlight of the show for me was the presentation of our Tomorrow’s Cleaning Awards. Being the fi rst set of Awards which I have worked on, I have really enjoyed watching them unfold from start to fi nish; to fi nally see the fruits of people’s labour pay off for them is well worth all the effort of producing them! It was a pleasure to walk around and to see our awards logo proudly displayed upon so many people’s stands, reaffi rming that for everyone who voted during the fi rst few months of the year, it meant a lot to every one of our 50 fi nalists.

Buzzing Days And Positive Vibes

The silver anniversary edition of ISSA/INTERCLEAN Amsterdam concluded four buzzing days fi lled with positive vibes. Close to 700 exhibitors from 43 countries presented their products and services to a worldwide audience of cleaning professionals, and the event programme was more comprehensive than ever, with seminars, presentations, activities and demonstrations.

Rob den Hertog, Manager ISSA/ INTERCLEAN of Amsterdam RAI, is clearly proud that ISSA/ INTERCLEAN Amsterdam 2014 is widely considered a success. He said: “I am delighted with all the positive feedback from our exhibitors that have actually labelled this edition the best one so far.

“New elements in the event programme, the dedicated Steam Cleaning Area, the Outdoor Demo Show, the Young Cleaning Professional programme, the Global Association Meeting and the Management and Mobility Solutions Pavilion, were well received and well attended.

“High appreciation was expressed for the ISSA’s educational seminars on hygiene, sustainability and profi t, and the women’s forum too – the seminar programme truly adds value to the educational character of the show.”

The attendance fi gures illustrate the growing importance of ISSA/ INTERCLEAN Amsterdam internationally. Over four days, a grand total of 29,325 professionals from no less than 130 countries paid a visit to the show. The international share of attendees keeps growing as well; this time a signifi cant 73% came from outside the Netherlands.

The Outdoor Demo Show on the front square, High Pressure demonstrations, Cleaning Competition at the Miniskills, and the presentation of the exhibitors to entertain the attendees with countless activities on their stands, ensured an extensive experience.

On The Road Again With three exhibitions for the cleaning industry to be held in the UK next year, there is a lot of speculation as to what they will achieve. How many people will attend? How many companies will exhibit? These are numbers which are still being kept fairly quiet at the moment, but no doubt with such a strong backing for the trade show still existent in this country, this will become evident as we move through the rest of this year.

The Cleaning Show in particular has been a long-standing platform within the British cleaning sector, but with its slow decline and now the move to London, we will have to wait and see how it will be affected. There certainly seems to be a lot of support for it, with many companies already signed up, and the list looking to grow signifi cantly, but how it will compare to the week I experienced in Amsterdam I cannot tell. All eyes are on London.
