8 New Gas Chromatographs for On-line Natural Gas Analysis
The new gas analyser DynamiQ-X NG2210 from Sensirion provides fast and accurate on-line monitoring of natural gas and delivers calorifi c values for composition control and custody transfer purposes. Meanwhile, the DynamiQ-X NG2220 performs the same analysis for natural gas containing hydrogen at concentrations as high as 20 % using only one carrier gas. The DynamiQ-X NG2210 and DynamiQ-X NG2220 can be integrated into many locations of the natural gas infrastructure, including natural gas city gate stations, blending stations, natural gas conditioning stations, offshore systems and power-to-gas systems. With a volume of only 10 L and weighing less than 15 kg, the instruments are easy to transport and can be deployed anywhere for analyses, if local power and gas bottles are available.
The instruments can accommodate two or three gas chromatograph (GC) units working in parallel, each performing a different GC analysis under individually optimised conditions. Each GC unit contains a state-of-the-art microchip-based injector and a thermal conductivity detector (TCD) combined with a proven microbore GC column and is set with optimal chromatography conditions. This confi guration enables an accurate instrument as well as a very short analysis time of less than a minute.
DynamiQ-X is designed as a stand-alone working instrument that uses an integrated processor on a future-proof platform, so that it can carry out continuous monitoring. The instrument contains an easily exchangeable GC cartridge that allows fast local maintenance. In addition, a PC can be connected to the analyser at any location via a network connection.
Sustainability and the facilitation of the energy transition are of global importance today. Qmicro by Sensirion has therefore developed the DynamiQ-X NG2210 and NG2220: as solutions to increase gas analysis capabilities and cover green gases, minimising the total cost of ownership to gas distributors. The analysers’ ability to store data for at least two years, also facilitates compliance with legislation and enables observation of long-term trends.

Crude Oil Characterisation by GPC-UV: New Air-transportable Liquid Chromatograph with UV Detector
The miniaturisation and the strengthening of laboratory-based analytical instruments and methods to the fi eld is a major effort in instrument development. To reach this goal, researchers and companies from various fi elds have made signifi cant progress within a variety of technologies. For some applications, the transportation of samples (unstable or diffi cult to ship) is a signifi cant problem. GPC is widely used in the crude oil industry to characterise samples.
Chromatotec has developed a new and transportable GPC-UV that provides accurate analysis of seven samples. The transportable system operates in isocratic elution mode (200 µl/min and 20 bars) with columns heated to 35°C. The system is standalone, robust and transportable on airplanes since its total weight is less than 20 kg (each suitcase). The liquid consumption for this application is only 200 µl/min. The system is fully controlled by custom electronics and software, which ensures data acquisitions, storage, processing and data transfer (Modbus, Profi bus, 4-20 mA).
The transportable system offers the possibility of using different columns with pressure ranging from 10 to 400 bars and fl ow ranging from 0.50 to 10 ml/min. The temperature of the oven can be set up to 100°C. In addition, different detectors can be added to the system for other applications.
Chromatotec® has been selected by TOTAL for the design and manufacturing of customised chromatographic analytical solutions. More information online:

New Bioinert (U)HPLC Columns for High Accuracy Analysis
Several substances are able to interact with more common ‘inert’ column hardware materials such as stainless steel or titanium. Critical substances in particular are oligonucleotides or nucleotides. Further sensitive substances are various peptides and proteins as well as coordinating small molecules. The adsorption on metallic surfaces typically leads to peak tailing, loss of recovery and sample carry over. This behaviour can especially be seen when a new column is used without any conditioning before the actual analysis.
For these challenging substances YMC is offering different bioinert hardware options for their YMC-Triart columns. The newly released YMC-Accura Triart (U)HPLC columns are characterised by a bioinert surface coating of the column body and frit. The coating is less hydrophobic compared to the PEEK lining used in the YMC-Triart metal-free (U)HPLC columns. These 2 options allow for the optimum hardware for analyses of any sensitive compound. Further, YMC-Accura columns are ready to use without any preconditioning, which is usually required for analysis of sensitive substances using standard columns.
Due to its organic/inorganic hybrid silica base material, YMC-Triart stationary phases contain no metal impurities. In combination with the bioinert YMC-Accura column hardware, YMC-Triart columns show excellent peak shapes for sensitive compounds, prevent carry over and ensure complete recovery. They are especially ideal for the use in highly sensitive LC/MS analyses.
All 8 YMC-Triart phases are available in inert YMC-Accura columns - with 1.9 µm for UHPLC or 3 or 5 µm for HPLC. The preferred choices for e.g. oligonucleotide or peptide separations are YMC-Triart C18 or YMC-Triart C8 with a pore size of 120 Å. YMC-Triart Bio C18 or Bio C4 with a larger pore of 300 Å are particularly suitable for more hydrophobic oligonucleotides and larger peptides or proteins. Other column options are the polar YMC- Triart Diol-HILIC, the aromatic YMC-Triart Phenyl and PFP and the extremely hydrophobic YMC-Triart C18 ExRS.

AI Autosampler for Superior GC Workfl ows
HTA is proud to announce the release of the 3000A series, the new HTA liquid GC autosamplers. With the release of this new series, HTA have raised autosampler manufacturing up to a level never reached before: new technologies have been introduced to create effective benefi ts for the customers in terms of usability, speed and reliability.
The 3000A autosampler series has already received a gold award from IBO (Instrument Business Outlook) for industrial design. New stylistic details have been integrated into the instrument: a modern sharpen shape of the front panel, new branding elements and a glossy paint fi nish. Lab technicians will be impressed by the larger touch screen with enhanced colour depth and view-angle, and a premium ‘tablet-like’ touch experience.
The HTA 3000A liquid GC autosamplers artifi cial intelligence opens up a world of chromatography automation, bringing new intuitiveness and creating a more natural and fl uid user experience. This technology allows the continuous optimisation of workfl ows, the implementation of predictive maintenance strategies and the creation of an effective real-time connection with service for a superior user experience. Predictive maintenance allows performing maintenance to the equipment only when needed in the amount that is needed. This is achieved by means of auto-diagnostic tools (such as GC septum test and syringe plunger test), while real-time connection with service means that problems are promptly solved, almost before that the user has asked for assistance by means of the QR code.
Due to the new integrated functionalities, the 3000A series provides an unrivalled automation solution for laboratories equipped with next-generation analysers and MS detectors. Sampling and injection method, reducing stress to septa, minimise the contamination of the analyser, while prep-run support have been implemented to reduce carrier gas consumption, saving operation costs and environmental impact.
Let Artifi cial Intelligence take your idea of automation to a new level: choose an HTA 3000A series Autosampler. More information online:
