Intrinsically Safe Flame Sterilisation
Flame sterilisation is a routine task carried out in many microbiological, clinical and life science laboratories. A new white paper from Integra describes the security features of modern safety Bunsen burners in relation to the inherent dangers of flame sterilisation using alcohol burners, gas cookers or a traditional Bunsen burner connected to a gas distribution system.
Safety Bunsen Burners were developed to ensure high safety by eliminating the risk of gas leaking and explosion inherent in using alcohol burners, gas cookers and traditional Bunsen burners. With this new generation of Safety Bunsen Burner the gas ignition is both immediate and safe, as no lighter or matches are needed. Unlike traditional burners, the gas supply flows only if a gas flame is detected by the flame monitor. Advanced temperature protection, user-defined maximum burning time and alarm display features serve to protect both the operator and operating environment.

Accurately maintaining temperatures between -6° and 65°C with a single control, this model features a feedback thermistor switch that allows the user to select which thermistor is used for feedback control.
Built-in protection for Peltier devices prevents overheating or freezing, while a low-noise power source makes the CL-200 ideal for sensitive electrophysiology applications. The CL-200 supplies 75 watts of power to each channel and is designed to control any Warner Instruments Peltier driven temperature control devices.

Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc announced that it will exhibit its Maybridge Fragment collections and present a related scientific poster, ‘A High Throughput Technique for Rapid Measurement of Fragment Solubility’, during Fragments III, the third annual RSC-BMCS Fragment-Based Drug Discovery conference in Stevenage, England, from 7-8th March.
The poster describes the use of the Stem Clarity solubility station to experimentally validate fragment solubility values in both DMSO (200mM) and aqueous phosphate buffer.
Such analyses have been used to affirm compound quality and further enhance the success rate of hits generated by the Maybridge Ro3 Fragment collection. Scientists from Maybridge will be available on stand E at the Stevenage Fragments III meeting to discuss the work presented on the poster and other aspects of fragment-based drug discovery.
