SEPMAG & Apis Biotechnology look to Chinese IVD market

SEPMAG, a manufacturer of biomagnetic separation systems for the in vitro diagnostics sector, and Apis Biotechnology gave a joint presentation at the State sponsored Clinical Laboratory Provider & Blood Transfusion Equipment Expo, held on March 11th in the Xi¡¯an Greenland Pico International Convention & Exhibition Centre, Shanxi province, China.

The company was recently awarded a patent from China’s State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), and marks the Company’s intentions to further expand revenues in China - a market still in its infancy, but forecast by analysts to expand at double digit pace over the coming years. As previously reported, SEPMAG has already commenced shipping the SEPMAG Q250ml to CapitalBio, its first client in the region, for the production of its IVD kits.

SEPMAG CEO, Josep Maria Simalso held a seminar on Apis Biotechnology’s stand, explaining how homogeneous separation techniques could help assist rapid growth amongst the Country’s newly established in vitro diagnostic companies.

“The Chinese government is keen to develop China’s own diagnostics technologies and advance the IVD market within the country. The Chinese market has tremendous growth potential and the company is on the cusp of an explosion of new developments in this field. Using our technologies they will be able to develop more consistent and reliable and safer results with reduced bead aggregation. This will undoubtedly help to facilitate the growth of China’s IVD industry and we look forward to advancing research for the betterment of healthcare in the region,” he said.

The joint presentation by Apis Biotechnology and SEPMAG was given at the conference organised by the Chinese Association for Clinical Laboratory Providers (CACLP), attended by high level life science audiences from across China. The event is sponsored by the National Association of Health Industry and Enterprise Management and the Chinese Association for Clinical Laboratory Providers. Moreover, the expo is supported by the Chinese Technical Committee of Clinical Laboratory Testing, together with the In Vitro Diagnostics Standardisation Administration of China.

The continuing growth of major conference and exhibition events in Asia can continue to give confidence to potential exporters in Europe with major events reporting strong attendances. In many cases smaller businesses on fact-finding missions are able to take advantage of established support from industry organisations which host companies in pavilions, helping to drive down costs of attendance.

Analytica Vietnam 2011, Saigon Exhibition & Convention Centre, Ho Chi Minh City (April 7-9) reports a higher than 25% increase on the number of exhibitors in pre-event statistics; this has been attributed to the growing presence of international and Vietnamese manufacturers of laboratory and analysis equipment and biotechnology companies underscoring the growing significance of these industries in the region, according to the organisers. Analytica Vietnam Conference will also promote dialog between industry and science. A workshop –Validation of Analytical Methods for FDA and EU compliance also takes into account Vietnam’s growing volume

of foreign trade with European and other countries.

"We are very pleased that so many companies are interested in analytica Vietnam and feel that it confirms our decision to establish a Vietnamese spin-off of analytica," explains Susanne Grödl, Exhibition Director for analytica in Munich. "The Vietnamese market for analysis and laboratory equipment has grown considerably during the last few years. That growth is now being reflected by a sizeable increase in the number of exhibitors." Germany will be very strongly represented, with 35 companies at this year's fair. The companies participating in the German Pavilion include industry leaders such as Binder, Brand, Eppendorf, Hellma, Julabo Labortechnik, KNF Neuberger, Netzsch and Waldner Laboreinrichtungen. The latest products and innovations also await visitors at joint exhibits representing China, France (organisers:UBIFRANCE) and Great Britain (organisers: GAMBICA) An overview of the exhibition highlights can be called up at www.analytica-vietnam.com before the fair begins.
