36 Compact and Affordable Mini-Mill

The new Mini-Mill PULVERISETTE 23 manufactured by Fritsch for smallest quantities, fits everywhere, grinds any sorts of solid samples, looks simply good, is user-friendly and affordable. The special field of the new Mini-Mill PULVERISETTE 23 of Fritsch is the fine comminution of very small-quantities of dry laboratory samples or solids in suspension. For mixing and homogenisation of emulsions. Sample quantity up to 5ml, maximum sample particle size: up to 6mm.

This mill is ideal for sample preparation, for example, for chemical analysis, chromatography, mass spectrometry or X-ray structural analysis. Can be used for preparing samples for genetic research, for homogenising of active ingredients, preparation of extracts in the forensic analysis and milling of pigments or other precious materials.

The PULVERISETTE 23 is also specially suited for the assessment of biological samples and for cryo-comminution of deep freeze or refrigerated soft samples.

Vertical oscillations of the grinding bowl with high amplitude generates a particle-size reduction through the impact of the grinding ball and friction between ball and grinding bowl wall.

Features of performance include: smallest sample quantities < 5ml; simple handling; easy cleaning of the grinding elements; rapid, reproducible grinding; small grinding bowl volume; low contact surface area with grinding elements; quick fastening of the grinding bowl; oscillation amplitude 9mm; adjustable and reproducible grinding time; adjustable stress frequency; and compact and affordable.

Extensive Range of Purified Full Length Human Proteins

Amsbio is now able to offer a range of over 4,000 full length affinity purified human proteins expressed in HEK293 cells and derived using an extensive collection of human cDNA clones.

The new range is currently the broadest offering of human proteins produced in human cells. It has been prepared to ensure optimal preservation of protein structure, post-translational modifications and functions.

All Amsbio full length proteins come affinity purified and are guaranteed to be greater than 80% pure making them ideal for use as native antigens for optimised antibody production; positive controls in antibody assays; ELISA assay standards ; Protein-protein interaction experiments; in vitro biochemical assays; cell-based functional assays and SRM/MRM standards.

All the human proteins in the new range are available in small trial size quantities and Amsbio provides fast development of larger (mg) quantities. In addition to these standard products Amsbio also offers a custom protein expression and purification service tailored to your specific needs, including protein domains, different expression tags and expression host.

New Flexibility in Laboratory Monitoring

Monitoring the storage and security of precious and vulnerable samples is an essential part of Good Laboratory Practice, often requiring a solution unique to the individual laboratory. IKS International have developed two new communications modules to make their market- leading Xiltrix®

monitoring system even more flexible, reliable and easier to install.

The new multifunctional Calypso module provides the central link between the controlling webserver and the monitoring system. Communication with the webserver can be via RS232 or intranet, and connection to the sensor substations can be hardwired or wireless. This optimises flexibility, and allows choices to be made that reduce the risk of communication disruption when very sensitive products are being monitored. A built in watchdog monitors communication with the webserver and provides an independent alarm function in the event of communications failure. Up to 4 alarm relays can be independently activated for different alerts, such as building management systems, flashlights, sirens or diallers. This is all supported by a rechargeable battery backup that will maintain functionality for up to 24 hours in the event of a power failure.

The Calypso can be interfaced to the well-established, hardwired XiltriX® Titan substation and to the brand new Telesto substation, which provides

either hardwired or wireless connectivity. The wireless range is up to 100m, making it possible to locally move equipment around. Telesto supports either two Pt100 or two 4-20 mA monitoring inputs and up to four digital inputs for functions such as door opening or external instrument alarms. A built-in power failure monitor is supplemented by a rechargeable backup battery. The Telesto operates in real time, and is as fast as the hard-wired Titans, so measurements are available on the user’s screen instantaneously.

IKS Product Manager Han Weerdesteyn said, “The expanded XiltriX product family is real value for money and should appeal to every lab that has monitoring needs. With the newly launched real time wireless Calypso and Telesto the system is even more flexible. The combination of hardwired, networking and wireless communication means there is no monitoring challenge too difficult for XiltriX.”

Less Is More With Ultra-Compact Solenoid Valve

A high density solenoid valve which offers the features of a large valve, combined with superior performance, yet in an ultra-compact design weighing just 4.5 grams, has been introduced by Lee Products. The latest version of the Lee (HDI) valve is a Lo-Lohm model that delivers increased flow capacity whilst helping engineers and OEM designers to meet the familiar objectives of making it smaller, lighter, more efficient, without increasing overall size and weight.

Available in either plug-in or face mount and with a choice of configurations, 2-way Normally Closed and 2-way Normally Open, the valves offer a flow capacity of up to 900 Lohms (19 SLPM @ 50 psid; Cv = 0.022. The valves have an operating pressure range of VAC - 50 psig (0-50 psid) and an operating temperature range of 40°F up to 120°F.
