Regiment, the Fire station and various vaccination centres around the Island. Due to a generous donation from Butterfield & Vallis, BHS staff were able to create little goodie bags to accompany the cards and it was a perfect way for students to celebrate the theme of the day, “Give More, Take Less”, by showing their gratitude to all those who have been working so hard for the last year.

In the months when in-person teaching has been allowed this year, the chatter in the hallways, laughter on the field and curiosity in the classrooms has not changed. The joy of learning in students and the dedication of the teaching staff has endured. The COVID-19 pandemic will forever be remembered as a profound moment in history, something current students’ children and grandchildren will learn about when they are at school. Through all the changes, regulations, uncertainty and disruption, students and teachers worked together and adapted. For example, online lessons were shortened to allow more breaks between classes and Google Meets allowed Primary students to have more “classroom time” with their teacher and receive “ face-to-face” help. created new ones. In 2020 and 2021, the Torch Ceremony was celebrated virtually, Primary assemblies and performances were filmed and shared online, sports days were held in year-group pods and the Class of 2020 celebrated their graduation with a drive-in ceremony. New events were also introduced to maintain a sense of community: the BHS Scavenger Hunt, a drive-through Fish Fry and virtual Bingo and Derby nights. These added much needed moments of fun and connection as a school community, either virtually or from cars! One extraordinary way that the BHS community came together was to raise funds for the Emergency Bursary and Critical Needs Fund to support those BHS families who were in crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Almost $200,000 was raised, ensuring that many students have been able to continue

“normal” soon, the hope is that when current students look back on this time, they will not only remember that they had to wear masks at school, have their temperatures checked daily and keep six feet apart from each other, but that they will also remember the small moments of connection that were created and how they persevered.

That, and the amazing first day back at school when everyone is able to be together again, within six feet and without masks….what a day that will be!

Off the the races: The McKevitt family took part in the first ever BHS Derby Night with teams dressing up as if they were going to the races and then picking their horses and cheering them on to win points for great prizes.
