The Maker Space


In the design of the Innovation Centre, a “Maker Space” was a top priority. Having a room where students could “tinker”, create and make is a key component of the STEAM learning environment. On any given lunch hour, you will find students in the Renaissance Re Maker Space working on a project. Surrounded by glass, students can always see, and be inspired, by the activities going on inside!


Classes have so far included: Year 2s designing and building for their Transport Unit; Year 6s creating 3D models of Martian settlements and shelters in their Mission to Mars IPC Unit; Year 7s producing Cranky Contraptions, where they learned how to use a mouse sander, a drill and needle-nosed pliers in the construction of their quirky mechanical toys and; Year 8s developing bridges and catapults that involved the design process (investigate, design, plan, create and evaluate) and a final testing process.
