Allie’s Law Hopes To Help Stop The Violent Cycle Of Abuse
State Representative Dan Daley has re-filed a bill in the Florida House of Representatives for the 2021 Legislative session which would require veterinarians to report abuse. Allie’s Law is named after a four-year-old Boston Terrier whose new owner volun- teered for Boston Terrier Rescue of Florida. Dave Heine of Orlando adopt- ed Allie, and soon discov- ered scars on her legs underneath her fur. Her face and ears were cov- ered in scars as well. Florida Legislative Session but met with resistance from the veterinary community, who believes the proposed law would lead people to avoid bringing their pets to their veterinarian out of fear of being reported. Daley said that similar argu- ments were made by doctors when the mandate to report child abuse was first introduced. “None of their worst fears came to pass,” said Daley.
