tales, accompanied by a painting, is charged with mystery, mischievous wit, and occasional absurdities. Readers will appre- ciate the book in different ways according to their ages. The young will enjoy the tales; older readers will recognize the metaphors.
Although I love the entire color spectrum, the color red calls louder than the rest.
Two fabulous women surrealists continue to inspire my work: Remedios Varo and Lenora Carrington.
Occasionally, I’ll put my brushes aside to make the world a better place for animal welfare, often fostering. I have also participated in fundraising campaigns for a local, non-profit spay/neuter program.
Daily inspirations, for me, are found in a simple summer breeze, the smell of the ocean, and the smiles on people’s faces. During these COVID days, the latter isn’t easy.
Every time I create a painting, I have something to say. If I have a lot to say, a whole series, like my Dogs, Cats & All Those Hats featuring pets in hats that match their individual personalities. I love the freedom this provides: freedom of content, freedom of style; the freedom to keep reinventing myself and my imagery. Each time I dip my brush into what I feel, rather than what I see, my art will continue to evolve. Pets call my brushes the loudest.
Not since a dog jumped onto my palette filled with oil paint has one been in my studio while I paint. My current studio is the best one yet. There is lots of light when I paint during the day. It’s in my home so sometimes I paint in my ‘jammies.’
My first dog, Rex, was an attack-trained police dog. He was a special German Shepherd Dog we adopted. Once, when I was alone at home, someone entered our home. Rex picked up on my fear, walked up to the intruder baring his teeth with a low, long growl. The stranger turned and ran out.
