The most serious disease for older people is not cancer or heart disease. It is loneliness., an unwelcome companion that may lead to depression as well as physical problems. The Pets For The Elderly Foundation (PFE) is a 501(c)(3) public charity whose mission is to provide companionship to senior individuals through pet
ownership.This serves a dual purpose as it is also saving the lives of companion animals in shelters across the country; animals who might otherwise be euthanized due to space limitations and/or having special needs. Since 2002, the national program has successfully placed more than 78,000 companion animals with senior adopters. Currently, the program is working with 57 shelters in 36 states, including four in Florida. The PFE Foundation helps pay the adoption fees of participating
shelters for adopters who are age 60 and over. For more information, visit
