ALL ABOUT JUDY MURRAY
SPORTING BENEFITS
“Sport has the power to change lives,” says Judy.
“Of course, the physical benefits are obvious but you also develop life skills that prepare you for adulthood. Discipline, routine, communication, leadership, sense of belonging, teamwork, goal setting, perseverance, resilience, and confidence – the list of benefits is endless1

She may be best known for being Andy Murray’s mother, but Judy Murray also had a successful tennis career herself in the 1970s. These days she’s a top tennis coach with a passion for getting more young people – especially girls – to take up the sport.
HOME FITNESS
As a busy woman, 60- year-old Judy knows how hard it can be to make time for exercise. So her approach to staying fit is little but often rather than spending hours at the gym.
She also admits she gets bored easily. So when she does get on a treadmill, she’ll run for five minutes, stop for a break, then run for another five minutes.
“Ten minutes all in one go is a grind,” she told Good Housekeeping magazine, adding that listening to music helps the time go faster. “Generally a song is three minutes so if I do three songs I’m just about there.”
She also tries to grab a few minutes here and there to do something active, like…
Skipping: “I’ll go out and do 100 skips, then I’ll stop
and later I’ll do another 100 skips.”
Leg raises: “If I’m watching TV I can lie flat and raise my leg about three inches off the ground and hold it there for a count of 20, then do the other leg.”
Bottle lifting: “If you have a big bottle of juice or water, just raise it about your head 10 or 20 times a day to strengthen your arm muscles.”
