ALL ABOUT HOLIDAYS AT HOME

Summer staycation

DID YOU KNOW?

Almost all workers, including zero-hour contracted workers and those on irregular hours contracts, are legally entitled to 5.6 weeks’ paid holiday per year1

.

Taking an annual break is also important for health and wellbeing, even for those who are working from home.

ACTIVITIES If the weather’s not great, try some of these indoor ideas:

RAINY-DAY

2020 is the year of the staycation. But while some of us may be planning a break within the UK, many will be spending holiday time in the comfort of our own homes.

FUN FOR ALL THE FAMILY

If you’re staying at home this year, there are still ways to conjure up a sense of adventure and entertainment:

PITCH A TENT If you have a tent and a garden, there’s nothing stopping you going camping (weather permitting). Being out in the fresh air will help you relax and unwind and give you a change of perspective.

If you don’t have a tent or a garden, try building a den indoors using some chairs and old sheets.

MAKE SOME MUSIC

Music festivals may be on hold this year, but you can still have your own at home. Just put together the perfect playlist on your phone, set up your tent and make it cosy with lots of cushions and solar- powered fairy lights.

Make sure everyone in your household dresses up for the event – wellies included.

1. Gov.uk 32 GO TO THE MOVIES

On a warm summer’s night, there’s nothing better than sitting on a blanket and watching a film in your back garden.

If you have a laptop, you can try playing a DVD or streaming a film from an online service such as Netflix or BBC iPlayer. Just don’t forget the popcorn.

• Have a board games Olympics – dust off your Trivial Pursuit, Pictionary, Monopoly and Hungry Hungry Hippos boxes to find out who’s the ultimate board games champion.

• Take the hula hoop challenge: use a stopwatch to see who can keep hula hooping the longest.

• Try sofa singing: join hundreds of people in a weekly sing-song (visit thesofasingers.com)

• Build the seven wonders of the world using nothing but Lego bricks.
