towns across the country. Dartmouth is no different albeit our reliance on a, now much shortened, holiday season could easily amplify its impact especially as many businesses are small and might not easily or quickly recover. If they don’t – our small independent shops or restaurants, pubs and cafés, activity business etc could easily close – then not only does the town’s unique character get damaged but the knock-on consequences on other businesses, local employment etc could take years to repair. We would all be the worse for it. Now, more than ever, the adage “use it or lose it” rings true*. A

s we all know, the current health crisis has wrought economic havoc on cities and

months but also over the upcoming winter season when the struggle will be particularly hard. Many businesses have gone that extra mile, and at great cost, to ensure they are ready to keep customers, and their staff, safe with COVID relevant measures and procedures. If you’re a second home-owner, think

carefully about what you can buy locally rather than purchase before you get here. Many local businesses will happily deliver to your second home. Whilst local restaurants are opening slowly, many are offering take- away services. If your home is in a local village, then please go out of your way to use the village shop – their absence would significantly impact on village life. The following pages of information illustrates

what some of our advertisers are doing to best serve our readers. ➜

* Dare we say it, but the “use it or lose it” applies just as much to advertisers and their support of By The Dart magazine. We rely entirely on advertising but offer advertisers an effective and low cost means to reach the

greatest number of local people and visitors – far more effective than social media, four times the circulation of the Dartmouth Chronicle, a trusted and quality environment and much loved by readers!
