22 Dartmouth - get ready for visitors

A message from Karen Perrow, Manager of the Dartmouth Visitor Centre to all local businesses

E

very business in the town is facing a time of great uncertainty, change and

high risk choices. Tourism, of course, has been among the worst affected of all economic sectors. We have a vital role to play in supporting you all in these unprecedented times. None of us is underestimating the challenges ahead, but difficult times can trigger creativity and a united approach that will help us navigate a way through. The Dartmouth Visitor Centre is

traditionally here as the first point of contact for visitors to the town. Whether you are an

accommodation provider, a restauranteur, hotelier or a retailer, the future will mean having to adapt and be courageous in response to changing circumstances. We will be working with you

as part of that great team effort, further cementing our position as the linchpin for activity as the town steers out of lockdown. Last year, footfall counters at the

information centre showed just over 90,000 people came through our doors and while that number may not be a realistic target this year, the town must show it is open and ready to welcome people when they return - as I believe they will do so. After months of uncertainty,

providing up-to-date and reliable information to those visitors is more important than ever. Like so many of you, we will aim

to continue to run our business in an effective and efficient manner, while applying the rules of social distancing and safety to protect our own staff and volunteers who make up our team.

We are here to support and

promote all businesses and with that in mind are asking that you please do all you can to keep us informed about your own plans and operations. Regular updates on opening dates and times, restrictions that

may be in place and any special offers you may be offering will be essential to share if we are to effectively help promote your business. As well as providing

information, we offer a window display and business card/leaflet advertising service which you may wish to consider using. Our free

comprehensive 2020 Discover Dartmouth visitor guide gives one of the best overviews of the area with information about the history of town, things to do, places to visit and where to eat and drink. While online information is

brought to life by our website partner Visit South Devon on our

Clean streets and gold standard

toilets, too, should be at the top of a checklist of requirements. And business

should not only look at financial success but must play a role in the social changes ahead, guided by strong values which will bring benefits to both employees and the wider community. If we get it

right, Dartmouth will be stronger and more

united as well as

being unbeatable as a holiday destination and place we call home. www.discoverdartmouth.com holidays@discoverdartmouth.com 01803 834224
