2021 Regatta week kicks off on Saturday 21 August, with the ‘official’ Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta taking place 25-28 August. Should a miracle happen, and restrictions lift we may

hold a few smaller events later in the year, but only when and if that happens and it is completely safe to do so. We wish everyone well, and hope to see you in 2021 for a full week of partying! Plan your summer holidays now!

I Dartmouth Food Festival

t was with great sadness and a huge disappointment the 2020 Dartmouth Food Festival had to be cancelled due to Covid-19. Careful consideration was

given but with current restrictions we could not commit to large gatherings and public safety is paramount. We are truly grateful for the support from all of our wonderful patrons, sponsors, volunteers, exhibitors, contributors and visitors over the last 18 years and are determined to come back bigger and better next year! As a not for profit organisation, we have used our small

surplus from last year to support two important local causes, Dartmouth Caring (dartmouthcaring.co.uk) and Dartmouth Community Chest (devoncf.com) with much needed funds to support people needing meals during the pandemic. Many of our local businesses and food festival traders also need our support and many are now offering home deliveries. A full list can be found on the Town Council

website www.dartmouthtowncouncil.gov.uk We are also delighted to publicise the Dartmouth

Academy initiative, the Cook-Off Challenge 2020. Organised by Jenny Chandler, Hospitality Teacher at the Academy, Year 9 and Year 10 hospitality students were required to design, prepare and photograph their own healthy two-course meal, and provide commentary about it from their own homes. The judges were impressed with the high

standard of entries, and congratulations to Archie French who produced an updated Homity Pie and a seasonal Brown Betty who won over the judges with his thoughtful commentary about use of seasonal produce and methods of cooking to retain flavour and nutritional values. As for the rest of 2020 and beyond, the food festival

team are still looking at options for fundraising, and hope to run some local events later in the year. This is, of course ,all dependent on current restrictions and guidelines which makes future planning a little tricky, so unfortunately we won’t know for a while yet what we will be allowed to do. We do have our postponed Dart the Dart foodie run booked for 15th

May 2021 so if you are interested in food,

exercise, or both, you can enter via our website! It is also important to sign up to our newsletter via our

website (www.dartmouthfoodfestival.com) or keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram for news and latest updates. •
