We’ll be back W

ell 2020 didn’t exactly go to plan did it! We hope you are all safe and well and looking forward. We promised you a weekend of

musical fun and frolics, but instead we all ‘enjoyed’ home schooling, avoided Joe Wicks workouts, and binged on boxsets .........or was that just me? With festivals cancelled all around the world, this year has been a bit of a wash-out, to say the least. However, this extra down time has given the great minds of the Dart Music Festival the opportunity to begin planning for our spectacular 2021 comeback! And what a comeback it will be! The act booking team

are in intense negotiations with the myriad of musical groups we had booked for this year, to try to ensure their return for next year. For the few that are sadly unable to roll over their bookings to next year we will be opening the applications process to new bookings on the website soon after 1st October 2020, www.dartmusicfestival.co.uk. Come 7th

, 8th & 9th

you a staggering variety of musical acts and genres to suit even the most discerning of palates. In keeping with our ethos of ‘Music For All’ every

performance will be free to attend, with corporate sponsorship, fund raising events and private donations

I Dartmouth Royal Regatta

t was with a very heavy heart indeed that the committee voted to cancel the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta for 2020. Whilst hours and hours of planning go into the event

every year starting almost immediately the previous one has finished (well we do allow ourselves a week or two off!), the overwhelming concern we all had without exception, was the safety of competitors, spectators and the community alike. We are in the middle of a pandemic; and these are

strange and serious times indeed for the whole country. For us all as a committee the number one priority is the safety of anyone who attends the Regatta. Maintaining social distancing whilst rowing, as an example, or managing a Sundowner crowd would be practically impossible, and we felt too much of a risk to public health. In addition, we would be at a critical time for planning and confirming bookings and there was, and still is, too much uncertainty about what will and what won’t be allowed. As custodians of the event, the committee did not feel comfortable spending any money on something that had a slim chance of proceeding. We felt we owed it to our sponsors, traders, performers and everyone involved to make an early decision, and it is one that has been welcomed by all. It is very, very sad, not just for us but for the thousands

of events that have been cancelled or postponed. We shall miss the smiling faces, the cheering voices and sheer grit and determination we see every year here in Dartmouth. But, we will be back in 2021. Expect all the usual

favourites such as the Opening Ceremony and fireworks; the rowing and sailing; the crabbing and the dog show; the tennis, swimming and road races. For anyone who has ever attended Dartmouth Regatta, you will know there is much, much more to the event, with its heart on the water and River Dart. Planning continues, as your volunteer committee work

towards a humdinger of a Regatta in 2021. There will be amazing music and entertainment for all the family as well as the sporting activities.

May 2021 we will once again be bringing

NEWS FROM DARTMOUTH’S FESTIVAL PLANNERS Dart Music Festival

providing the much-needed funding. In the economic aftermath of the Coronavirus pandemic, it is more important than ever to the Music Festival crew that our event should benefit the whole town, and so once again we shall be resisting the financial temptation to sell catering and other trade pitches to outside firms, ensuring that all of the income generated by the event flows smoothly into the tills, cash boxes and coffers of Dartmouth’s local businesses. With the ‘new normal’ swiftly becoming the ‘normal’ we cannot exactly predict what the 2021 Dart Music festival will look like, but we CAN predict that we will once again be staging an event that brings you the cream of musical talent from across the nation. We CAN deliver a three-day festival that will spread the love and joy of music, and lift up our hearts and spirits once again. We CAN all come together to celebrate the closing of a dark chapter and the beginning of a new, more positive chapter in all our lives. All completely FREEEE – although we would absolutely love it if you sponsored us, became a Festival Friend, or bought some of our marvelous merchandise. So that can’t be too bad can it?
