Celebrating a fantastic Summer and getting ready for Winter E
xcitement is growing as The Kingsbridge in Bloom Team await the results of their hard
work. Eight members of the team will be going to the regional Britain in Bloom Awards in Newquay on the 11th
October and five will be attend-
ing the national awards at the Royal Horticultural Society Lindley Hall in Westminster on the 25th
October to
find out the results. It has been a fantastic Summer for the Kingsbridge in
Bloom Team. The team worked enthusiastically to prepare stunning displays for the Britain in Bloom and Champions of Champions judging and the judges were delighted with the results. Kingsbridge are one of only five finalists that were hand-picked by the judges based on their exceptional past performance. National judges from the Royal Horticultural Society assessed the Town for the Champion of Champions category which is the highest achievable level in the competition. The judges were greeted on the town bandstand by
the Kingsbridge in Bloom Volunteers, Town Mayor, Town Crier and local Bee Keeper, Dave Sparks. The Town Crier officially welcomed them to Kingsbridge and highlighted some of the Kingsbridge in Bloom team’s achievements. The judges were then treated to a taste of Dave’s honey before being shown the vast range of incredible displays and heritage sites created by the Bloom team. The tour finished with afternoon tea at the Methodist Church. The judges were delighted to see how the town has
continued to enhance its floral displays, horticultural expertise and sustainable planting year on year for the last 12 years. They commented that it was a fantastic
tour and recognised the benefit of Kingsbridge in Bloom to the community in creating a lovely place for people to live and visit. Jon Wheatley, Council Member of
the Royal Horticultural Society and Chair of Britain in Bloom South West said “Bloom brings something very special to communities. It’s based on a strong local commitment and volunteers. When you see the
difference it can make in towns all over the South West you begin to see its value. A fine example is the wonderful small town of Kings-
bridge who have embraced all of our specifications of the Royal Horticultural Society and Britain in Bloom. They have transformed the street scene and created a wonderful sense of place, but above all their community care and involvement has resulted in Kingsbridge being one of the best places in the South West to visit.” Graham Price, Chairman of Kingsbridge in Bloom said
“I’d like to thank the Kingsbridge in Bloom team for their tremendous hard work and their incredible year-round commitment to the community, which is at the heart of what Britain in Bloom is all about. During the tour the judges were impressed by the exceptional quality of plant- ing throughout and the spectacularly presented wildlife friendly displays. I am so proud of our achievements and excited about the ideas we have for the future next.” In the meantime the Kingsbridge in Bloom team are
continuing to keep Kingsbridge looking at its best for vis- itors to enjoy and will be planting hundreds of new bulbs for the Winter and Spring displays. For more information on Kingsbridge in Bloom please visit
