In March 2019, Phase 2 of CityCenterDC, a high-end residential and re- tail destination, welcomed the $250 million, 360-room Conrad Washing- ton, DC. In addition to retail, the property houses Estuary, a restaurant captained by brothers Bryan and Michael Voltaggio (Top Chef alums) as well as a rooftop bar with Capitol views. The property boasts 32,000- square feet of meeting space, including two pillar-free ballrooms.
The Irish-owned luxury property The Dupont Circle Hotel revealed a sleek refresh of its lobby, bar (Doyle) and restaurant (The Pembroke) in spring 2019. Its refurbished rooms should be revealed by the end of summer.
The former Four Points Sheraton is now a 209-room lifestyle property called Eaton Hotel. This flagship property boasts a speakeasy, a coffee bar, a rooftop lounge, a restaurant from Tim Ma (Kyirisan), and amenities designed for millennial travelers such as: a radio/podcasting studio; a 50-person movie theater; a co-working space for 370 members, a newsstand, library and a wellness center. The art-filled hotel opened Oc- tober 2018, and its spa opened in January 2019.
Hilton Washington DC National Mall, a renovated rebranded property, opened at L’Enfant Plaza with 367 rooms this spring. The hotel features 23,000-square feet of meeting space, and is topped by a heated swim- ming pool.
The W Washington DC completed a $50 million top-to-bottom renovation in July 2019. In addition to all 317 guest rooms and suites, Studio Gaia oversees a new look for the lobby’s Living Room and POV, the rooftop bar. The historic property features two new restaurants under the contin- ued direction of Barry Koslow.
The Lore Group will open its first hotel in North America in late 2019 in- side the original Washington Loan and Trust, a circa 1891 Romanesque Revival building named The Riggs, which will offer 181 rooms, a restau- rant and basement bar, and an enclosed rooftop event space.
Europe’s hip hotel-and-hostel, Generator, has elected to transform the 148-room Courtyard by Marriott Hotel north of Dupont Circle. The prop-
erty will feature a new rooftop bar and event space, a fourth-floor terrace bar and lounge, as well as a ground-floor restaurant and café. A portion of the multi-million-dollar transformation with a complete launch by late 2019. The concept mixes hotel-level amenities with standard hotel rooms and some rooms rented hostel-style (by the bed).
Capitol Crossing is a 2.2-million-square foot LEED sustainable develop- ment between Union Station and the Capital One Arena, atop the I-395 Center Leg Freeway near the National Building Museum. The mixed-use $1.3 billion development has begun opening in phases with a final com- pletion date scheduled for 2022.
The REACH at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts will add 2,500-square feet of new performance space, 7,500-square feet of pre-function and event space with new art installations and digital en- hancements, as well as a terrace for up to 1,600 people and a pedes- trian bridge over the parkway. It is slated to open September 7, 2019 kicking off with 16-day festival.
A Latin market, food hall and cultural exhibition space, La Cosecha opens two blocks from Union Market, DC’s largest indie food incubator, this fall in the NoMa neighborhood. La Cosecha is designed to mix entrepre- neurs, artisans, designers and chefs in one gathering place to spotlight DC’s resident and international Latin communities.
Construction continues on the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, connecting Washington Dulles International Airport to downtown DC. The extension is expected to open in 2020.
Construction of two new security checkpoints with 28 additional screen- ing lanes and a new 14-gate concourse is in full swing at Reagan Na- tional Airport. The one-billion-dollar investment will help with passenger safety, security and efficiency. The checkpoints and concourse with jet bridges and concessions are scheduled to open in 2021.
