43 The Edinburgh Academy
The Edinburgh Academy prides itself on carrying forward strong traditions developed since it was founded in 1824, but our fully co-educational school constantly seeks the next unique ‘EA’ innovation. We strive for excellence in all
areas and our staff-pupil ratios allow us to nurture the ambitions of each individual. For the past ten years, over 90% of EA pupils have gone on to higher education. From our purpose-built nursery to our Sixth Form offering,
we provide a challenging academic environment. Quality learning also occurs outside of the classroom and pupils enjoy a robust programme of co-curricular activities ensuring a well-rounded education. Our art and music departments are sector-leading and our outdoor education programme has been widely acclaimed. Sports are coached to an impressive standard, we opened two new pavilions fit for the 21st-century and our state-of-the-art climbing wall is an unrivalled facility in a Scottish school.
Modern technology, in which our junior school is a national leader, co-exists with outstanding teaching and an Academy education culminates in our pupils sitting an average of eight SQA National 5s after two years of study, followed by a large choice of Highers and Advanced Highers. This breadth of choice and a
track record of excellent results prompts strong candidates to
come to the Academy to complete the last two years of their studies. Our school also offers flexible care between 8.00am and 6.00pm for children aged 2 to 11 years and, out of term time, our Holiday Clubs provide a caring environment with an extensive package of fun activities. To ensure wide access to an Academy education, we offer significant means-tested financial support through our Bursary-Scheme up to full fee remission. We also provide Scholarships to encourage academic excellence as well as rewarding talent in art, sport and music. At the Edinburgh Academy, we prepare young people who are Grounded in Scotland, Ready for the World.
