Cowboy Poets before calling it a night (of course, after a late-night snack). Day four began a little slower and I took the time to get a nice long workout in, and as fate would have it, shortly after my workout started, a gentleman about my age jumped on the machine next to mine and a conversation that changed my life in a musical sense. This man just happened to be a drum tech/ percussionist for the band Blackstone Cherry. He told me to call him Bongo and we spent the entire 90-minute workout discussing music and his love of the Cherry guys. Now, I knew a little about Black Stone Cherry, but was not educated until this chance encounter. He told me to come to their set that

night and then tell him what I thought. I would go, but first off was Jimmy Hall and family playing outside on the pool deck. Now if you don’t know Jimmy Hall, where have you been? He was joined on stage by family members including his amazing sister Donna. Now Donna is one of the best female singers alive today and her vocals along with Jimmy and his musical talent not only as a singer but playing saxophone and harmonica and you have the experience of being taken to church with every show. Greg Martin joined

the band on stage to play his signature guitar sound and if you had not known better you would have thought this was a touring band. I headed out to the Molly Hatchet trivia be- fore heading down to catch Heather Luttrell & the Possumden. Having never heard Heathers music I did not know what to ex- pect. Her voice is soulful and has just enough rasp to make her singing the bluesy southern music a perfect fit. Check her out on any streaming service and social media - you won’t be disappointed. I wanted to learn more about the Black

Stone Cherry guys so I headed up to the all access interview with the band and after a quick dinner it was time to hit the main stage hall for the Devon Allman Project with special Duane Betts for a killer main stage show. What an amazing band Devon has assembled and they play like they are playing their last show ever. They played some of the Devon Allman solo stuff and then brought Duane out to do some of his solo stuff. Devon joined Duane on stage for some songs off the new record they just finished at Muscle Shoals Sound Studios and then they lit the place up by playing some Allmans songs including “Blue Sky.” I told my wife this was as close to the hearing ABB music as we might ever again get, and I was in musical heaven hear- ing those great songs being played by the peo- ple who deserve to play it. Magic is the only word I can find to best describe what we wit- nessed.

We took a short break (again, food)

and headed back in to the main hall for the Marshall Tucker Band. Now, the guys from Tucker have been on board ship since we sailed and this is the first show they have played, so just picture a race horse penned up while others are running all around them and then turning that horse loose. That’s how the Tucker boys hit the stage. Full of fury and let- ting it fly. Doug has taken on a role of senior
