REDNECKS ON THE HIGH SEAS THE SOUTHERN ROCK CRUISE ROCKED!

by Scott Greene (Report and Photos!)

Not every man can say that their wives

are willing to give up a nice relaxing 38th an- niversary trip to join their husband for a 6- night-long rock and roll show aboard a floating concert hall of a cruise line, but that’s just what mine did. Not only did she willingly give up a week of rest and relaxation, she even handled all the details of the trip! We departed Greenville S.C. on a rainy

Thursday afternoon with a planned stop in Athens (see Charlie Starr acoustic show re- view) to meet up with some Brothers and Sis- ters of our Georgia tribe for the show and then head south to my nephew’s home in Florida. My wife understands what music means to me and she has never once told me not to buy the tickets. We left Athens after spending some

time with Charlie, Benji and Levi and let me add this- kinder people you will never meet then those three. Humble, and so talented - which is rare to find. We got to Florida the next afternoon and after spending some time with my nephew and his wife, we got some much need sleep. We had the next day to enjoy some time in our favorite place. We could not be this close and not swing by for a visit, so we spent most of the day eating and soaking up some sun in our little strip of heaven at Long Boat Key. We got one last night’s sleep (the last

one for a week) and headed out to the port of Tampa to get onboard and get this show started. A few things about this process just FYI. The port has ample parking for a descent amount of money right across the street, and

After we checked in and while we were await- ing our time to board, the music was perfect with selections from Blackberry Smokes latest release playing through the PA. I knew I was in the right place, and as a wise man once said " I could feel a good one coming on." Before we knew it, we were onboard and grabbing a bite of lunch, and meeting up with old friends. I realized I had time so left Miss Vicki sitting in the sun and I headed off to my second favorite place on board the ship, the gym. After a quick workout and shower, I re- joined my wife and some brothers and sisters for a sail away party, and the start of a week- long musical adventure. One of my all-time favorite bands, the

Atlanta Rhythm Section was hosting the sail away party and they did a great job of setting the mood for the entire week. The band was
