on TV. But it’s all political. Disney has bought all the rights to the Marvel Comics based shows and they are starting their own pre- mium Disney channel. Another way to charge us even more for TV. Daredevil and Jes- sica Jones are also out. Disney Plus is breaking out the big guns — and an even big- ger checkbook — for the launch of its stand- alone streaming service, with several new Marvel series (featuring characters and cre- ators from the MCU films rather than the mostly-canceled Netflix shows) along with the first of what will probably be many Star Wars TV spinoffs. The first one, at a reported cost of more than $100 million, comes from Jon Favreau (another MCU vet), with Game of Thrones‘ Pedro Pascal in the title role as a gunslinger who hails from Boba Fett’s home world. Set a few years after Return of the Jedi, it features a loaded cast that includes Carl Weathers, Nick Nolte and Werner Her- zog. . . .Season three of HBO’s True Detec- tive was great. Much like season one. We’ll just pretend season two never happened. . . Loving season two of Seth McFarland’s The Orville. It’s a tongue in cheek take off of Star Trek, but has had some very serious story lines this season. . . I truly feel there could easily be an entire network devoted to medical and hospital shows past and present. I still enjoy Grey’s Anatomy, and love the New Amsterdamshow as well as the Good Doctor. Lots of emotion on those shows and also on This is Us, a family drama that is still keeping the highest ratings on TV. . . CBS on Demand is doing everything right on season two of Star Trek Discov- ery although it just doesn’t seem fair that we have to pay monthly for the channel just to watch Trek. They will launch a new show fea- turing the return of Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) from Star Trek The Next Genera- tion; Although I haven’t yet seen it, there’s a buzz about the channel’s reboot of The Twi- light Zone.We shall see. . . The final season

of Gotham has been a thriller, with a “not quite” Joker and “not exactly” Harley Quinn, along with Gordon, Bruce Wayne, Alfred, Penquin, Riddler, Scarecrow, Barbara Gordon and everyone else. Lots of crazy this season. . . The Walking Dead is going even farther down the rabbit hole, as Negan has escaped his prison cell and Alpha and the Whisperers have reared their dead masked faces. It’s bet- ter every week, and Chris Hardwick’s Talk- ing Dead serves as a great way of explaining what you just saw. The stick around for Ride with Norman Reedus, Daryl from Walk- ing Dead takes friends for motorcycle out- ings around the world. Much to the delight of TWD fans, his first episode found him riding with both Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negan) and Andrew Lincoln (Rick) and visiting Lincoln’s father in law, Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull in England. This season also features Carol and Glen from TWD among others. It’s a show for TWD fans to be sure, otherwise it would be kind of a bore. . . The back half of the current season of The Walking Dead finally intro- duces us to the Whisperers, who have become legend in tge comics. Led by Alpha, they are one crazy, dangerous lot... The hottest babe to come out of Walking Dead, Lauren Cohan (Maggie) has a new show on ABC called Whiskey Calalier. She is playing one kick ass character. . Deadwood returns as a movie this spring on HBO. . . the hit, Stranger Things, season 3 drops on July 4, And Big Little Lies season 2 on HBO re- unites Reese Witherspoon, Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Zoe Kravitz, Laura Dern and Shailene Woodley. . . Catch-22 brings George Clooney back to the small screen in a miniseries adaptation of Joseph Heller’s clas- sic novel. . . The Watchmen are coming to HBO.We know very little about the plot, other than it’s set in the Watchmen universe and has a cast including Regina King, Jeremy Irons and Don Johnson. • -Michael Buffalo Smith
