4. Phantom of the Paradise, from pro- ducer Brian Depalma (1974) stars William Finley as songwriter Winslow Leach, with Paul Williams as record mogul Swan, Jessica Harper as the beautiful young singer Phoenix, and Gerrit Graham as the perfect flamboyant shock rocker, Beef. It’s a classic rock takeoff on Phantom of the Opera and a cult classic. 3. A Star is Born (2018) Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper create some serious onscreen heat in the latest version of A Star is Born. Great performances and stellar music. 2. Almost Famous (2000) An outstanding rock movie from Cameron Crowe, loosely based on his life as a journalist, melding all of the groups –the Allman Brothers, Led Zeppe- lin and the Eagles into a single band. All of the rock and roll lifestyle clichés are here, and we love it! 1. Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) Rami Malek is uncanny in his portrayal of Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury. So much so that he won the Best Actor Oscar in 2019. Just an outstanding film about one of the biggest bands of our lifetime. •

6. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), was the creation of British actor Richard O’Brien, who wrote the original stage play, all of the songs, and starred as Riff Raff, the “butler.” Virtually everyone knows the story of Rocky Horror’s initial failure at the box office before becoming the most popular midnight movie of all time. Outstanding per- formances by Tim Curry and the cast. 5. The Rose (1979) stars Bette Midler, Alan Bates And Harry Dean Stanton, and could have easily been called “Pearl,” if not for law- suits. Bette’s character is as close to Janis Joplin as one can get without being called Janis. Simply a great rock and roll movie with a killer soundtrack that included Midler’s theme song from “The Rose” and her take on the Percy Sledge hit “When a Man Loves a Woman.” Midler simply ruled the roost in this one.
