love being so close I can see Charlie bending the strings on his guitar and seeing his facial expressions. His music speaks to me like none since the -late great Ronnie Van Zant, and I can’t begin to explain except it speaks to my soul and tells my story in a way I could not. I said earlier that my dream was to see Charlie and Dickey Betts, jam and knowing that could not happen I was disappointed but understood. What happened during the show made up for my disappointment. Charlie brought out Duane and Devon to play “Mid- night Rider” and the crowd went wild. It was so much fun being just five feet away from such world class musicians, watching them just let go and jam. It was a highlight of the cruise to that point (for me anyway) and even with the shorter than normal set I left the venue happy and satisfied that a little piece if musical history had been witnessed by all. We headed to eat a late dinner before
catching the ARS for their second set. We wanted to catch as many acts as we could, so we headed down and caught part of Johnny Neel’s set at the bar city before we headed to the pool to catch another of our personal fa- vorites, the Steel Woods, at the pool for a late- night show. Having seen the Woods open for Smoke on more than one occasion, we knew the treat we were in for and the band did not disappoint. Wes sounded strong, and the level of
musical talent in this band is second to none. They did a stellar set of all the songs people know and love. Again, nicer people you will never meet in the music business and so humble, happy just to get to play their music for fans. Again, after a late-night snack (LOL
food seems to be a recurring thing here) we headed off to bed since we had a big day planned for Cozumel and a Skynyrd show the next night. We arrived at the port and we spent the day exploring Cozumel. We made it back to the ship right before the huge rain storm hit. We

caught a little of Preacher Stones afternoon show and then saw the Curt Towne band with the great Barry Rapp in the Crystal Atrium. One thing that struck me was how good of a job in marketing his band Curt did. They had a printed schedule for every one of their sets and when they finished playing, Curt came by and shook ever people’s hand who was still there and thanked them for coming. Now, Skynyrd was only supposed to just do one show out on the pool stage but the weather killed that, and my hats off to not only the bands manager, the crew, the pro- moters and the band themselves they moved it around and changed it to two inside shows so no one would be disappointed. Lynyrd Skynyrd is on their farewell tour and it seems to have lit a fire under them to just let it all hang out and play with more passion then I had seen from them in many years. They did a shortened set, but it was full of all the songs we all know and love and again played with the fire and passion I grew up loving.
After the show, we caught part of the
