STAYING SAFE IN THE SUN sSummer is finally here, and we’re all looking forward to
n holiday. It’s a great time of year, but it’s important to be aware of the effects the sun can have on our skin.
Now that the sun is shining, nobody wants to stay indoors! Some sunshine - below sunburn level - is, indeed, good for us, and our bodies. Sunlight is the body’s top source of Vitamin D, which is essential for good bone, teeth and muscle health.
Too much exposure to the sun, however, can lead to a range of skin problems. These range from simple, harmless cosmetic changes to more serious, harmful skin changes, e.g. cancer.
FOLLOW OUR TOP SUN SAFETY TIPS
Protect your skin with clothing. It’s a good idea to wear a sunhat, some sunglasses, and a T-shirt.
When it’s sunny, try and spend time between 11am and 3pm, when the sun is at it’s highest, in the shade.
Always use ‘high protection’ sunscreen, which also
protects again UVA expoure. Your sunscreen should be at least SPF 30.
Make sure you apply sunscreen generously and
frequently. Remeber that lower factor sunscreens do not last long, and need to be applied regularly.
