Girlguiding
On a lovely bright and sunny Wednesday afternoon, the 4th
Broadstone Guides met at Upton Country Park on a mission to complete the Wessex Orienteering Club Orienteering Course.
The adventure began at the front of the park – with 36 orienteering points spread
out around the area to fi nd. We strolled around for an hour or so, and tallied the results.
The Guides thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors and following their own instincts to fi nd all of the orienteering landmarks. This was especially as we had let them explore the course without any leader intervention – the Guides loved leading for themselves: Danielle said: “It is lovely to be outside in the fresh air with my friends.” Lucy said: “It is fun to do something I have never done before.” Another Guide commented on how they enjoyed learning how to interpret the map!
This sort of activity highlights the Girlguiding way of teamwork, fun and adventure.
As a group we are planning lots of outdoor activities for the upcoming summer term! It has been a great way for the Guides to enjoy the fresh air and have lots of fun.
This sort of evening activity is a classic example of the type of activities we enjoy to do as a group. The next few months of our schedule include a cook out in the woods, a beach BBQ and some outdoor sporty games like rounders.
