Churches Together in Broadstone Dear friends and neighbours

As the Vicar of St John’s Church since March, I want to say a deep thank you for making me so welcome. Community-living is at the heart of the Christian Gospel, and I have been delighted to fi nd such a strong community spirit.

Churches Together in Broadstone invites you to come along to any of our services or events. to be attentive to the moment is good to cultivate, and essential to healthy living. All the churches offer different times and styles of prayer and stillness that may be helpful. Why not take time to seek one of these out, and allow the extra-ordinariness of life to bring new delight this summer?

After busy celebrations in our churches, we now head into what is called ‘ordinary time’ – a period with no major festivals in the Christian calendar. In reality, I’ve always thought the challenge of ‘ordinary time’ is to have time to appreciate the extra- ordinariness of the world in which we live, and how precious is the gift of life.

Our busy world doesn’t leave much time for ‘noticing’, or living in the present, as the pressure on us tends to be planning and preparing for the next thing. The challenge is to slow down, just a little, and take time to notice, be attentive to all that is around us. It might be noticing a beautiful tree in fl ower, being sensitive to someone else’s mood, or simply fi nding a regular moment in the busy week to ‘be still’ and draw breath. An inner core of stillness and ability
