Broadstone Youth Club

As we move into the final half term of this academic year, I am delighted to see the numbers of young people attending our youth club exceed 100 every week.

We have also had some wonderful support from the Vineyard Church, who have been helping to redecorate our coffee bar area and we have invested in a new karaoke machine – so apologies to our neighbours if we get a bit carried away!

We have also had a fantastic visit from YADAS – Youth Alcohol and Drugs Advisory Service – where we were challenged to carry out a number of activities while wearing ‘beer goggles’ and to correctly pour a standard measure into a variety of different glasses. This was as instructive for adults as it was for the young people and I can vouch for the impact of the beer goggles, having fallen into a pile of chairs as they mimicked the effect of a big night out! I hope that the young people will feel the experience was helpful when they are making choices in the coming months and years.

We would love to hear from organisations that can provide sessions that would be valuable to young people, as they benefit hugely from this sort of engagement outside of a school environment.

STOP PRESS - we need a new treasurer! Our long time treasurer Tony Hamilton will be moving away from Broadstone in the coming months and we urgently need someone to help run our finances. It’s not a big job, so if you have a background in accountancy or book-keeping we would love to hear from you. Committee meetings are just four times per year.

Just a reminder, that our Youth Club costs only £1 per session and is open to all children, regardless of where they go to school. Year 8s runs on a Thursday from 7.15-8.45pm and Year 9s on Wednesdays from 7.15-9pm. Our Year 10 session runs monthly on the last term-time Friday, so for the rest of this school year they will take place on June 29th and July 20th from 7-9pm.

We are still looking for volunteers to help run a brand new session for children in Year 7 – please get in touch if you are willing to help!
