BESTTHE Celebrating

OF DARTMOUTH

By The Dart is not the only local business celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. In 2008, Giles & Sarah Halliwell moved to Dartmouth from London and opened Distinctly Living as a home décor store on Lower Street.

D

espite previously pursuing very different careers to retail (Giles

worked for Disney), they shared a passion and knowledge of interior design and decoration built up from their direct experience of renovating and styling various of their own homes (six in London and three in Devon!). The move to Devon coincided with starting a family and, since then, both the family and the business have grown successfully. The business is dedicated to customer service, attention to detail, creativity and supplying the best quality product. The shop was created to source and supply the highest quality homewares, furniture and kitchens for discerning clients across the South West. An attention to detail, a flair for design and a coordinated product range are all abundantly clear as soon as you step into their shop. Giles: “We describe ourselves as a lifestyle store, not overly trend-led, although this is important, but we try to present concepts and visualisations of how our products will look in your spaces at home. We have curated a collection of homewares that complements the kitchens and furniture that we

supply. “We take sourcing our products

very seriously – we travel all over Europe, and at least once a year to Scandinavia and Paris, to seek out designers and suppliers of pieces that combine great quality, at a great price and that offer something different for our customers. Our customers are often surprised just how affordable our products are despite their evident quality and uniqueness.” But the business is more than

just a shop – “It’s like a three legged stool,” explains Giles, where all three parts support and complement each other. “We have the physical store here in Lower Street but we also have a thriving online business. Our own website – www. distinctlyliving.co.uk - sells most of what we sell in the shop and is popular with our loyal customers who’ve bought something previously in store. But we also aim to reach a wider audience through third party websites with a slightly refined version of what we sell and which varies depending on the platform’s target audience. The third leg of the business is the design, manufacture and fitting of kitchens etc. Soon after opening the shop, Giles and Sarah began supplying Neptune Kitchens (www. neptune.com), then an emerging business but which has since grown to become a major lifestyle brand with multiple stores across the UK and Europe. Distinctly Living is a Neptune Premier Partner for the South West. Distinctly Living will supply Neptune’s range of free standing furniture or help design and fit a Neptune kitchen. The latter are available in four distinct ranges
