been the weather. It has been some years since we have seen such heavy snow in South Devon making conditions tricky for all. On the up side, whilst the roads were impassable, a hardy few took to the river for a chilly commute to work! Members of the DHNA river team were out and about over the weekend helping with the Head of the Dart race, the first major event on the river this year. It was a great success despite the high winds and rain on the Sunday forcing the paddleboard course to be reset. 137 boards raced the 9.5 miles from Dartmouth to Totnes on the Saturday to complete the course; the quickest finishing time was just 43 minutes.

Alterations to charges, Following a consultation, the DHNA have implemented a 50% reduction in river taxi fares and introduced an exemption from harbour dues for all vessels less than 4 metres in length. We have received a lot of positive feedback for these changes which is great. The yacht taxi service operates from ship to shore (and back), and from 1st May until the end of September will be running between 8am and 11pm every day. For everyone who is exempt


from harbour dues, the harbour office has introduced a free sticker system so vessels can be identified for safety and security reasons. All vessels below 4m or that have no mechanical means of propulsion are now exempt. If your boat falls into this category please contact the office to register and get a stick- er. This is important because river staff often come across boats which have come adrift or have been moved from where they should be and they are unable to contact the owners. We are currently positioning tem-


porary pontoons for the summer season to ease congestion. You will see signs on the pontoons about any berthing restrictions. Please take note of these and follow the instructions. If your boat is incor-


rectly berthed and does not have a DHNA sticker we may have to move it, as we won’t be able to contact you to sort the problem. One of the tasks the staff at the harbour office undertake is managing the waiting lists for DHNA moorings. We undertook a review last year to help us ascertain the current demand levels and are grateful for the responses we received from those on the lists. We will be carrying out more work in this area along with other customer research and analysis to feed into our long-term plans and to help us make capital development decisions. We are in the process of planning an upgrade to our website and hope that this will be completed towards the end of August. The changes will ensure that the website works well on mobiles and tablets and is easier to search and navigate. We have been making more use of our social channels to share information about the work of the DHNA; you will find us on Face- book, Twitter and Instagram.
